I have always wanted to know from the community of posters their individual feelings on nudity because we have such a rich and varied bunch of respondents.

To me it is all in how nudity is presented. If nude men and women are rendered in art or medical illustrations, I find the naked human body to be beautiful and wonderous. If however, the naked human form is presented in a lewd or vulgar manner in order to provoke those kinds of thoughts, then I think it is wrong.
I have no problem with sparsly clad adult pictures when viewed by consenting adults. The obsenity standard for this has been evolving in the media and has grown far more liberal in modern societies.

There have been several instances in which school children under 17 years of age have been exposed to nudity in museums and there have been disciplinary actions taken against the reponsible adults in charge of the trips.

Our society is a little "quirky" when it comes to exposure of the human body. It is perfectly acceptable for a man or woman to run around on the beach clad in a bikini or a brief, but everyone has a fit if a man or a woman rips their garments and exposes even 1 sq. in. of their underwear.

We can view the naked African tribesmen in "National Geographic", but we blush if someone finds a Playboy on our coffeetable.

Every society around the globe has a differing threshold of obscenity when it comes to nudity. Many Muslims insist that their women cover their entire body except for the eyes. Many native cultures in 3rd world countries wear little, if any, attire. Many cultures consider the exposure of different parts of the body more offensive than the exposure of others.

I am of the belief that mature individuals can handle good nudity, it is the immature ones that cause others to believe it is unacceptable.

i dont have a problem with it if it is used as an art form and done with maturity and respectfully to all parties involved, however i dont like trash classless nudity that is pretty much porn

I'm and artist and art teacher, so I agree with you, buff4ever. Context is key ;)

I think the proper wording on this site is "I admire naked women"

I think the human form is beautiful and should be admired nude. Especially beautiful women, mens bodies are more utilitarian and made work while women were made to be beautiful so they would reproduce.

Yet in the animal kingdom, it is the male who is usually the more colorful and beautiful in order to attract the females. I agree that the human female form is much more beautiful than the human male form.

As a biologist I've learned that most biological concepts such as sexual dimorphism rarely apply to humans, it's weird but that's the way it is.

"The naked ape" by desmond morris is one of the best science/biology books i've ever read, even though it is 40 years old.

Very good insights on topics, mostly behavioral adaptations

Nothing wrong with our society. We sometimes get married so we can legally get nude and all, you know(sorry if this was a repeat as i haven't read all the responses).:p

I have a different spin on this:

What about innocent naked pictures (like butt shots) of a baby?

I know the Wal-mart and Wal-Greens here won't develop them saying they are "child porn".

I firmly belive that clothes are over-rated, unless it's cold or raining. I'm all for nudity. That is why I plan on building a 20ft privacy fence. :D
