Multiple sources are reporting that JJ wants Norv Turner. While no formal offer has been made...many "anonymous insiders" report that Turner is the guy JJ wants and they do not have anybody else scheduled for an interview. :(

So successful that they got rid of him?

If not Turner, then who? Easy to make a wish list, but which goodcandidates could JJ realistically get?

=======================

That is the Great Bill Belicheck's record before the Pats took off

Norv was not bad in Washington..he took a shell of a franchise and built them to be solid, but Snyder was impatient.

In Oakland..Well we can see now Davis has gone KooKoofor Cocca Puffs and that place is a coaching hell hole.

WHOEVER is the coach comes into a team young for the most part and a good talent core.

Troy Aikman is one of the people who is pushing for Norv Turner. For some reason I'll take Aikman's opinion over just about everyone's on this site when it comes to professional football.

Troy gives Norv Turner much credit for his success in pro football.

Maybe I am a little biased for Norv Turner. To me, his heart has always been in Dallas and I think he would work night and day to make the Cowboys a title team. If JJ gets Jason Garrett for OC, and maybe a good, sharp DC--like Wade Phillips (don't think he would settle for less than the HC job)---I think Turner will have the coaching tools and the talent on the bench to move the Cowboys to the next level.

1) Ron Rivera is interested in the job and said so last week. At least give him an interview. Plus, if you're bringing in Garrett on offense for Romo...why bring in ANOTHER offensive guy as the HC???

2) Wade Phillips was alright in Buffalo (48-39) and has one of the top 3-4 defenses in the league with the Chargers...which is something that JJ said he wants to keep in place.

3) Mike Singletary is one I would love to see brought in. Bring in a solid DC that can handle the 3-4 scheme...and then have Singletary at the top as the master motivator, taskmaster that Parcells was too old to be for the Cows. TO's antics wouldn't last long that's for sure.

4) Lovie Smith...obviously a wild card but his contract with the Bears hasn't been renewed. He doesn't seem like a "money guy" but consider that Patrino is getting $5 mil/yr in Atlanta w/ no NFL HC experience...and the Bears are rumored to not want to pay more than about $4 mil/yr for their HC job. Things could get interesting...

You can hire Jesus to coach the Boys and until Jerry Jones lets someone else handle personnel decisions the Cowboys will be a 500 team or thereabouts for ever.

A tired cliche, but in the NFL---When your money gets right....your people get right. Money talks--BS walks. It's just that simple but that is where the NFL has gone.

Because Garrett may need a bit more grooming. And there's really no one better than Norv for that. MOre than one NFL defensive guy has said that Norv's offense is far and away the most difficult offensive system to prepare for. NFL people have also said that a good DC is much easier to find than a good offensive person.

You would be more excited about Wade Phillips than Norv?

Same experience as Garrett...Singletary is too risky. I really don't get all the singletary talk.

I would be happy with this, but you're right, it's a long shot.

Jones won't get anyone great as long as he's GM.

IMO he's bringing Turner back because he can't get over the glory days and because Troy gave him the nod.

But that's just MO

p.s. Parcells also never won a Super Bowl without Belicheck on his staff, remember that.

Garrett is definitely young...and his experience on the field in Dallas is definitely limited. I don't know why...but I have a good feeling about Garrett and I can't remember the last time I had a good feeling about a Cows coaching personnel move since Jimmy left. (I didn't think that was a good move either...nobody really did though :( )

I'm not a fan of the retread coach that's been relegated back to to a coordinator position...but at least Philips had a winning record!

With as late in the game as the Cows are in finding a coach...they have to take a risk. They can't just take 2007 and wait around for Cowher to be available in 2008.
