How long have you been posting on TXHSFB forums?

I'll be entering my tenth season of mixing high school football with websites/message boards (Fall 1998 was my first).

I've been on JBC Pigkin Prep, TxPreps (until it folded earlier this year) and now the DL. I've visited most of the other ones, but those were the biggest in their time.

Most of the owners of this site were from those previous boards. I remember Gobbla being in high school and when this site was being put together. At one point Bearcat asked me if i wanted to handle the region 2 stuff w/whoever was there at the time (i think it was a forney fan) but i was still working on my own 2A website.

It's funny to think how many of the websites today are owned by people who were originally on JBC's Pigskin Prep. KT2000 (5ATexasfootball.com), most of the owners of this website, and others whose sites are no longer here.

It's amazing how fast the times go by.

i know you remember such characters as lukethadrifter, nicholi, g2, coug78, lynn, bruce and the others

i wonder what happened to nicholi and the others than didn't make the transition here?

I started back in 02 on the Caller Times forum, then the "PIG", and it took off from there. Now I run my own forum.

Hey Rixey...I think you may well have been the last person to ever post on the Pig. The site was still up for almost a month after it stopped letting anyone post, and the forum page said "last post by charlesrixey." So I guess you're kinda famous...;)

Fall of 2001 for me also. I also started out on the Txpreps site. Joined the others, then found the Downlow, felt right at home and stayed. Since then, I rarely go to any other board.

I don't think it's a valid site anymore. Last time I tried it I got an error message for the 10th day in a row, so I deleted it from my favorites.:(

i have to correct myself a little bit

the 'pig' was the nickname for the original JBC forum, starting in 1997.

after Buck stopped his website, RV kind of took the reigns on another site (don't remember how it all went down exactly) called txpreps, in 2001; this site took most of the former 'pig' posters and also added a large number of new faces, since TXpreps was a free site (the 'pig' forum was one of the only free portions of ***********).

Later that same year, some of the other faces from *********** started making their own websites, including myself, KT2000, and Gobbla, Bearcat, Matt328 and Jacket.

After only a year or two, the main portions of both txpreps and 3ADL folded, leaving only the highly popular forums.

Collier-Sharp and TexasFootballratings.com continued to provide ratings services, until CS was put on hold (i think in 2005). Harris ratings and the padilla poll were the only ratings services that had continued from the beginning, but since they were pay-only sites, the forums remained the main source of information.

That's where we are today.

You can still go to the rivals/txprepextra sites, but those have always been too commercialized for me. And i'm poor, so i will continue to not pay for ratings. I spent parts of five years on my own website, and had bit pieces on TexasHSFootball.com and Texas2Afootball.com, among others.

What does this all mean? I went off on a historical tangent, but basically, the txpreps forum was the successor to 'the pig,' and the sadness of its departure lies in knowing that no true successor has yet emerged (that covers all five classes).

November 2001 was told by a football player about it. Read only member then decided to join the discussions. Before those days you had to wait for a story about the game during the week to know something about the team the Pirates were facing.

I liked Traci (Bearcat) also. Never did understand what happened to Bearcat and Jacket on this board.

My first site was "fridaynightheadbangers.com"...a little mostly 1-A, some 2-A and 3-A trash talking place that i stumbled on in 2000.

Then I found txprepxtra.com the next year....it was fun but the west texas board is SOOO SLOWWWWW!!!!

The next year, 2002, I found the downlow....and the rest is history. Even though I am a member of several other boards...this one is still my favorite and will always be "home".

I got Rommed from a football (and I use that term loosely) board on my birthday last week!! :D :D :D
