I can remember the first computer I bought - probably back in 1994 or 95 (paid $3995 and thought we'd stole it from them) - the only way in Cuero at the time to get on the WWW was AOL and it was long distance cause AOL didn't have a local number so we had to dial up to a Victoria # - I installed an automatic redialer and when I got up about 6:15 AM, I'd go try to sign in and if I was LUCKY - it would connect (find a number not busy) before I left for work about 7:45am........ I'd sneak home for lunch early so I could get online easier at noon........ from 5pm to 11 pm it was impossible....... lines were all busy..... I was so excited when we got a T-1 or T-11 or whatever the heck it's called - the internet has totally revolutionized the way business is done now...... We do all our insurance quotes and endorsements via the internet now.. none of the companies I write with are stand alone - everything is interfaced now......... I can actually access 90% of them from home - only a couple have special certificates installed for sercurity reasons.........

I remember as a child when my grandfather got the internet, he told me that you could do something called "downloading" and you could get games on your computer. He showed me how to do it, and I found a game called Jazz Jackrabbit. it was between two and three megabytes and took about four hours to download!

I bought my first computer, a Compact 283 in 1983. It had a 40 megabyte hardrive and cost about $5000. Next was an IBM 2, a real clunker for $3000 in 1990. My computer guy in my office told me Dell was the way to go back in the mid 80's. He was buying stock and probably is a millionaire now. My first internet hookup was dialup in 1995. Very slow and lots of busy signals and missed calls. Went to DSL, then cable and now Satellite.

We buy almost everything online now. No sales tax, look for special sales and free shipping. We built a house and bought all the appliances and fixtures online and saved thousands. I love the internet, it has brought so much choice, and freedom to the marketplace and information to the home in such a short time. We certainly do live in interesting times.
