Wharton @ Columbia
This is by far the game of the week in district 24-3A. In their last meeting these two teams battled for six quarters (2OT) until Wharton was finally victorious by two. This time around, things are a little different, Wharton is without the services of their top player (#5) and another player that remains nameless. Columbia on the other hand, is looking to get back rolling after a win at home over Sealy Tuesday. I look for Columbia to control the tempo and take this game by 10.

Stafford @ Sweeny
This is a very important game for both teams, Sweeny is trying to climb back into the playoff race and Stafford is trying to hold off a surging Columbia. In thier last meeting, Stafford held off a Sweeny for a 10 point victory...whether or not they can do it again depends on their gaurd play. If Sweeny can play the way they did against Needville last week, they can take this game. I think that Sweeny will be able to hold Stafford down and take this one at home by 5. ***upset pick of the week***

Brookshire @ Columbus
Once again these two teams meet up with a common goal...don't inish last. Brookshire actually had a chance to stay in the race earlier this season, but saw them slip away after losses to Columbus and Sealy. I'm sure that loss is still in the back of Brookshire's mind and they will be hungry for revenge. Brookshire by 15.

Needville @ Sealy
Needville needs a win. Bottom line, if they lose to Sealy tonight and Columbia beats Wharton they will be 2 games out of third with five left to play. I belive that Needville will be ready to go after another tough loss to Stafford on Tuesday. Needville by 15.

The lady necks won their second district champ in row...they beat wharton last night 67-65 on a buzzer beating shot. Columbia is now 27-0 (12-0) in district

WC had an outstanding 4th quarter and we played really poorly for a stretch at the end of the 3rd/ early 4th, WC went on a 12-0 run that did us in. I bet we missed 15 freethrows, glad to hear that Stafford lost so we still have a 2 game lead, but we REALLY need to play better at Needville.

Wharton HAS to win either AT Needville or AT Sweeny if they want to win the district crown.

earlier someone had posted that the district is weak.

neck o6...how do you see the playoff teams doing in a first round matchup with navasota, bellville, and giddings??

thats a tough question, i haven't really seen district 23 in action like i have seen district 24....

what i will say is that whoever does make the playoffs out of district 24 (Wharton, Stafford, Columbia, Sweeny, or Needville) they will have to keep playing the same style of defense that they have been playing all year to be successfull, because none of these teams really have an offense that can just blow you out of the water (i.e - Columbia & Stafford last year)

I saw Sweeny's win over Stafford on 2 OT. It should not have come to that either. The ref clearly waved off the Stafford bucket to end regulation (it was after the buzzer), then was overruled by the other ref & they said it counted! Now 60-60 headed to OT. Sweeny got screwed in their own gym! But they battled & won it anyway, so whatever. Anyone who saw it would agree it was clearly a bad call hands down.

Dane Hooker for Sweeny was the difference Friday night. The kid stepped up & played well down the stretch. I think he had 20 points, but also ballhandling, assists, & a big block. God job Dogs!

Still a tough road ahead, but they are in the hunt...

personally i think both are very possible wins...its in our hands to finish out the rest of the district games strong and hopefully #5 and the other player will be ready for playoffs...

The sports person from the sealy paper said the tigers have a shot at the play-offs in basket-ball this season. What is he smokin? Sealy is 2-7. Unless 7 teams make the play-offs in this district.
