Text Message Shorthand..

GMA aired a story this a.m. about the kids and their use of text messaging shorthand. They said it had gotten so widespread in useage that some teachers were reporting instances of this shorthand being turned in on papers. They said the main reasons for this shorthand use were brevity and "secrecy" from parents. Some examples were:

MOS- Mom Over Shoulder
POS- Parent Over Shoulder
GAL- Get a Life
420- Let's get High

Kind of funny 420 was a term when I was in HS and I have a 12 year old daughter..she could NOT use that one on me LOL

the only i have heard of was 420 but not being used as shorthand on text messages haha. wow the others i have never even heard of i thought i was hip but i gues not haha

that may be for kids...but I use shorthand to save on space. One text msg can only have 160 characters before it is counted as 2 messages...so anything I can do to shorten it up I will do.

Haha Carter I used about 3500 a month, but I use alot of them with business partners to talk when we are work and such.

texting is the only way i communicate most of the time. it's just easier and quicker than calling somebody up and then having to listen to them ramble for 20 minutes...but as far as the shorthand stuff i dont do that. haha i find it super annoying. most of my texts are in complete sentences with puncuation haha :D

texting is pretty much terrible, i do have a 200 message plan, only time i get close to going over is football season with scores. other than that if i receive one ill call you right back.

I've never had anyone send any of these to me as a TEXT.. but it is something I see often on AIM.

That wasn't being suggestive....I was just testing the text feature to make sure it worked. I need an "attention getter"!!

One day, a friend of mine was like, why don't you guys quit calling it "stuff" in reference to alcohol, around our parents. According to him, it sounded WAY too obvious, and I agree. Now, we call it Omaha 42. Where Omaha came from I don't know, that same guy made it up. The 42 came from good 'ol David Bourquin, the former Graham coach, and his love for the play 42 Counter, which he ran 20 times a game. If one of us is making a run to the beerstore, its called going to Nebraska. But back to the main point, the only time I really use it is when I'm in class and can't talk on my phone.

I have 100 free and so does my daughter, that's what comes with our plan. I might send her a text if she is in class and I need to tell her something. But we never go over.

I have a friend who has unlimited, and he sends upwards of 8500 every month. I told him NOT to practice on me!:D

only 100:eek: My bill closes every month on the 27th and i have unlimited text... i just checked it and i have used 1694 text messages... there is NO WAY i could live with only 100 i also have 1500 minutes and i used only about 800... the sad thing is i can text and drive and not have to look at my phone.
