It was the beginning of a new semester at Sinton High almost half way done with my sophomore year. Getting our new schedules changing classes the Lady Pirates and Pirates were still in basketball season almost done . Both teams clinched a spot for the playoffs, In second semester preparing for the events coming up such as Favorites Dance, Spring Break, Prom, Graduation, Playoffs for Basketball and Baseball which begins Coach K's second season as head coach in baseball leading the Pirates into a powerhouse for the future. With 3 State Titles and 1 State Runner-Up in Class 3A:clap:

And on the big screen films that were released Hotshot, The Stepfather, and Hour Of The Assassin.

On the music charts the punk rap trend started by the Beastie Boys"(You Gotta Fight) For Your Right (To Party) "were climbing the charts along with "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Corey Hart, and "I Wanna Go Back" by Eddie Money were fresh while "At This Moment" by Billy Vera and The Beaters remained #1 for the first week.

20 Years ago today, I was changing classes from Economics to Civics, getting ready to go to and Play one of the Biggest Rivals in Basketball Marlin has ever had (Waco La Vega) in Waco, their only loss came to Marlin and we were scheduled to travel to Waco LaVega and play them big bad Pirates, we won in front of a hostile crowd, and went undefeated in District play. In the Play-offs we met Marble Falls at Temple Junior College, I had 27 points 3 Steals, and 11 Assists. the Following week we played a tough Bowie team in Burleson, I was sick to my stomach this game and didn't start, but the Superintendent's wife (Dr. Campbell) gave me some rolaids to settle my stomach, when I didn enter the game we were tied with 4 secons left and I had just gotten fouled. My knees were trimbling as I approached the line for the first free throw, swish, I nailed the first one, the second was off to the left, where my classmate Daniel Coleman tip the ball in and we won, and was off to Texas Tech for the Regional Tournament, ticker tape parade in Marlin with a police escort, wow! We stop at Abiliene Christian College, where the coach ran the cowboy stuff out of us. Upon checking into the Hotel we had dinner and Friday finally came, we beat a very big and physical team called Idalou and was off to the Regional Finals to face Dimmitt, for the chance to go to Austin. After breakfast we had a walk thru practice and then came tip off, I was nervous as I had ever been, but I scored the first basket, and settle my team mates down. This big Spacious gym was intimidating, I must admit. We came out at halftime to a 7 point lead, that quickly dwindled Dimmitt had a guy get into the zone and no one from my team could stop him, we eventually loss, and with tears in my eyes I exited the Floor at Texas Tech, only to be called back for my first ever All-Tournament Plaque. I still have nightmares about that game, sometimes I awake and think we won, and then reality hits. 20 years later here I am.

Twenty years ago I was thirty years old with a young daughter. My husband and I had just bought an old German farm house on fifty acres and we were busy building a barn, fences and remodeling the house. Life was good and I was clueless.
