Who would be the 3A Team of the Decade?
Sealy?
Forney?
Everman?
I want to know what ya think about the last 10 years of 3A Football who would you say had a Dynasty type program. I know for 2A it would be Celina, but who would it be for 3A???

10 years ago Sealy was about to win it's 4th straight championship... they'd take a 1st round exit the next year and would make it to the Championship game and lose to Commerce in '99...

So since Sealy's 4th straight championship is within this 10 year period, I'd label 'em the only dynasty... everman's the closes after that...

Yeah, I remember Sealy was pretty darn salty!

FYI Sealy's only loss was to La Grange in the regular season, then they beat the Leps in the Astrodome in the semifinal 28-14. The Leps had Tye Gunn as a freshman starting qb and a kid named Dobbins as rb who was awesome.

La Grange had some tough teams a few years back. They plowed through us (Mathis) in 2000 and 2001 with huge Gunn-led teams.

I don't think you can throw Forney into the discussion...they had a great 5 year run in 3A but then left the classification. Same with Everman...only in 3A for 4 years. Granted they went semifinals, champs, champs, lost 2nd round (both losses to Wylie :D) but their body of work is significantly smaller than a Wylie, Commerce, Bellville, La Grange, Cuero, Sinton, etc.

Are we talking about just titles or overall success??

Bellville is in the top 5 only 4 wins away from #2.

O buddy, that '97 team was stacked.
Tye Gunn at QB
Lawrence Dobbins at RB who looked and ran JUST like Barry Sanders.
CL Dobbins on the line who was pushin almost 400 lbs.
Lester McKenzie playing DB and returning punts running a 4.3.
Wade Boothe playing safety and was an All-State Selection.
Can't remember everyone right now, but man they were good, Sealy was just a little better that year, but that was no suprise even though we did break their win streak. In my opinion, I think that the '97 La Grange team could've beaten our State Championship team.

3A football, and athletics in general, is by far the most exciting in the state. As the most wide-spread classification, geographically speaking, competition between schools and regions is quite fierce. It's obvious who the football dynasties are in some of the other classifications:

5A: Southlake Carroll
4A: LaMarque
3A: Sealy, Commerce???
2A: Celina
1A: ???

3A is so competitive, it's über-difficult to establish a dynasty. I'd have to give the nod to Sealy, although it's been quite a while since they enjoyed the success they did in the mid-90's.

As much as I hate to admit it, central Texas 3A football does tend to dominate the other 3A areas. Wimberley, Hutto, Liberty Hill, Giddings, LaGrange, and Hondo come to mind, though not necessarily in the order I listed. Cuero can also get the job done.

Much respect to CenTex 3A football from southeast Texas.....

Here are tables specific to 3A - the first one is rankings comparing all programs that are currently 3A (thus all of Celina's 2A records and all of WO-S' 4A records are included). The 2nd table includes ONLY records while classified as 3A and includes programs that are not currently 3A (i.e. Southlake Carroll's amazing run in the late 80's - early 90's)

Win totals and rankings were compiled using 11-man varsity records of the 174 3A programs that competed in UIL district play in 2006 and includes all games played through the end of the 2006 season

http://members.aol.com/cboehme/thsf/3atop152006.gif

The next set of rankings is by request and includes games played ONLY while in Class 3A, thus programs that have played in 3A all 20 seasons over the past 20 years will rank highly. To be fair, I've also included highest winning percentages of ONLY games played while in 3A which is highly skewed towards teams that spent just a few seasons in 3A (Southlake Carroll got that unreal win-loss total and winning percentage in just 8 seasons!)

Actually Gunn was a senior in 2000, it was Chase Anderle a sophomore at QB in 2001 when the Leps lost 14-11 to Commerce at State. Mathis played the Leps close most of that 2001 Regional game in the Alamo Dome. My son played in that one. The 2000 Quarter final game at Alamo Heights was a different story. When that kid fumbled the opening kickoff to give the Leps a quick 7 points it was all down hill for the piratres. They had a stud rb as I recall by the name of Caballo (?sp).

Oh ok. I didn't make the '00 game, but I was at the 'Dome in '01 when you guys won 29-0. Just a slow beatdown, one score per quarter. The player from Mathis you're thinking of is Troy Collavo, who just finished his senior year at UTEP as starting middle linebacker.
