Woman Dies After Entering A Contest To Win A Wii
A 28-year-old mother of three has died after participating in a contest to win a Wii at a radio station in Sacramento.
Titled "Hold Your Wee For A Wii", the contest, held at Sacramento’s KDND (The End), made participants drink an eight ounce bottle of water every ten minutes until everybody but one person gave in and went to the bathroom. Some of the contestants continued to drink for up to three hours, though Jennifer Lea Strange died after consuming over a half gallon of water.
Another contestant, Gina Sherrod, claims that a nurse was on premises, warning a deejay about the dangers of drinking too much water. According to Sherrod, the deejay told the nurse off, and said that the waivers that the contestants signed were for publicity issues rather than health concerns.
After quitting the contest, Strange reportedly called a co-worker in while in tears, saying that she felt ill and would not be able to make it in. She was found dead at her home later on.
As of now, no legal action has been taken, but representatives of the network have expressed their sympathies to Strange's family and friends, and promise further inspection into the incident.
