when we go to the in laws in Port Neches, we go to Cheddar's, Carraba's, Mexican Food place next to Outback Steakhouse on I-10 (can't think of the name) and used to go to Brad's Burgers before it closed down due to the Hurricane.

It's not a restaurant, but why would Conn's have been founded in Beaumont, too?

Drive over to Nederland and eat BBQ crabs at Sartin's; or you can drive over to Esther's seafood under the Rainbow Bridge between Bridge City and Port Arthur. Perhaps an even more "local" dining experience can be had at Larry's French Market over in Groves. It's a little more difficult to get to, but worth the drive.

Be advised that all these restaurants have been known to serve up some dang good Cajun cookin' along with the requisite frosty malt beverage of your choice (a.k.a. "Liquid Dumb").

My cousin & his family live in Groves. Gotta try Sartin's & the crabs if you are going there. Absolutely great! The others listed above are good too. Can't go wrong if you stick to fine Cajun fare while in that area. Stay away from chains & do the local thing.
