For anybody that has better access to traffic info...can you tell me what the conditions are like between Dallas and Abilene on I-20...and specifically around Ranger Hill? Thanks in advance...

I'd like to know too.

I know someone that is wanting to travel from Abilene to south of Dallas. What are the conditions in the D/FW area, adidas?

Well I'm staying home today because parts of 35 and 67 are shutdown in Duncanville and Cedar Hill.

I know that I-30 in Grand Prairie is also shutdown. Where are they wanting to travel to?

I can't get the road conditions to open...must be too many requests currently.

TX DOT (http://www.dot.state.tx.us/)

I am a bit concerned since my son will be driving to San Marcos later today.:(

it's Ranger, TX (actually closer to Thurber, TX...a ghost town)...a big hill along 20 that has a 200 ft change in elevation in about a mile.

I know that the roads in Abilene were pretty bad this morning. It looks like the sun is starting to thaw them out a bit and traffic (from what I can see) is moving a little faster. I would imagine that bridges are still iced over.

I would not chance that road until midday at best. Ranger hill is bad enough when it is just wet. Icy is impossible. You might get
downhill in one piece heading east but I would not bet on it. It is cold but the sun and traffic will thaw it some. I cannot get hold of my cousin. She lives in ranger and apparently the phone service out there is messed up a little because of the ice.

Yeah I loved the old smoke stack. When it burned down they moved it to the new one. I ate there once and it was ok.

Years ago, we were coming back from Fort Worth to Snyder from a softball tournament and I didn't even remember driving the bus up Ranger Hill. A friend called and said they passed us up and I asked where. They said "just past Ranger Hill," and I said that I haven't gone up it yet. They asked what bus we were in, and I said the same as the one they passed. That was scary and I was wide awake the rest of the way home.
