The big question is, "Is there life after Billy Pittman?" The Yoemen are loaded with young talent, after a successful 2002 season. Although they lost a nail-biter by one point to Marlin, many people said that they were the best of the two, last season. With it a strong probablity that Caldwell will get into the postseason as Division I for 18-3A, that leaves The Yoeman not having to face Jasper! Sapp, the long time Coach, should be able to make a number of rounds in Division II and also has a good chance of winning the 18-3A District....That Caldwell has really turned things around-they have a State Contender softball team and also a viable football program, with the thoughts of upsetting some folks...

The sophmore group from last year should continue to improve. Billy Pitman can not be replaced at the same performance level but there is still plenty of speed left at running back and wide receiver. The projected quarterback is left-handed and a very good athlete. There isn't much size on the team (the same reason Jasper was able to manhandle Cameron last year)and the quality of the offensive and defensive schemes will decide Cameron's fate this year. Joshua's head coach from last year is now our defensive coordinator. It should be interesting this year.

The key if Caldwell ends up playing them (which would first require a win over the other Hornets (Gatesville in bi-district) is to not think about Jasper's school size and just focus on sound football. Once Caldwell takes the "I" out of "TEAM", they could surprise even themselves. Depth this season should be a real plus. When this year's sophomores are seniors in 2005, look for the school's first-ever 13-plus game season. Any time a freshman team can beat two junior varsity's en route to a 9-1 season with its only loss by a point to another JV, that's awesome. Good luck, big orange...

To Aim_High: Thanks for the info on Caldwell...I like what is happening up there for the boys and girls. Brandi C. and Candi W. are great softball players who should scholarship. Your Coach Wendy Wiess and Bridge City's Coach Sissy Lemons are some of the best in the State, and also their two teams should be considered as the two best teams entering the Softball season....The boys program has definately been on the rise at Caldwell-don't sell Jasper short; they have a huge contingency of youth that major in football, but they can be out-coached!
