Neck_06's Picks

Sweeny @ Columbia
Anytime these two get together its going to be a high intensity game. If Sweeny wins they would jump up into the 3rd place spot, which makes it all the more important. Sweeny has a few more outside shooters, but if Columbia's gaurds (Scott Twins) can attack the basket, watch out! I'm taking Columbia in a close one by 5.

Wharton @ Sealy
Wharton is coming together at the right time. They are still somewhat young, but Sealy is down this year. Wharton by 30.

Columbus @ Needville
Anytime you travel to Needville you are in for a fight....they play well at home and usually get a little home town cooking from the refs. Add that to the fact that Columbus is down this year and well, you get the picture....I'm taking Needville by 20.

Stafford @ Brookshire
Brookshire really surprised me against Columbia earlier this week (55-56 loss) and they beat a good Sweeny team in the first game of district (67-55). I've never been to the Brookshire gym, but I'm sure their fans will turn out. If Brookshire plays well I think that they will upset the 2nd place Spartans. I'm taking BROOKSHIRE ROYAL to upset the Stafford Spartans by 3.

Solid picks, but of course I am rooting for the hometown Sweeny boys. If Tank stays out of foul trouble (& T's) & the guards handle the pressure, then I think Sweeny can win. But it will be a battle. Wharton & Needville must be much better than I thought. Good district race.

Wharton is decent, if you stop #5 and Shelton you win....W.C. should have beaten them, but played bad.

I haven't seen Needville play yet, but you know how it goes when you step foot on any Needville playing surface........add that to the easy part of their schedule (haven't played Sweeny or WC)and you get 2-2.

The earlier post asking about the Sealy athletes, yes they are in short supply. They have very little overall size, especially in the top two grades. The lower grades seem to have some athletes coming. Hopefully the new coach, whoever he is, isn't expected to produce an instant turnaround because I just can't see it taking place. Down the road it appears much brighter, but for next year again I have my doubts.

Alright guys....

so it would appear that Wharton is the early best team in the district? are they a well oiled machine that functions as a unit, or do they have one or two stars? Whos who? Who's fun to watch? gimme the skinny as I'm about 2 miles down the road from Needville's HS and would like to start watching them some.
