Dolphins on shortlist to host game in Europe

By Jason Lieser

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Tuesday, January 09, 2007

The Dolphins are among six finalists to host a 2007 regular-season game in Europe, the NFL said Monday.

The game would be the second regular-season contest outside of the United States. The first was in Mexico in 2005, when Arizona and San Francisco played before 103,467 fans.

The team that plays host would have only seven true home games. The other teams being considered are San Francisco, Seattle, Buffalo, Kansas City and New Orleans.

The league ruled out sites in Canada and Mexico, leaving Germany and England as possibilities.

As of Monday, five venues in the two countries had submitted bids.

The location will be announced next week, with the matchup determined before the Feb. 4 Super Bowl, said Mark Waller, senior vice president of NFL International.

The game would not be a divisional contest unless both teams agreed. The Dolphins' non-divisional home games will be against Baltimore, Cincinnati, Oakland, Dallas and the New York Giants.

In October, owners voted 30-2 in favor of a plan to play as many as nine regular-season games in five seasons at international sites.

The National Football League is going European in 2007.

For the first time in league history, a regular-season game will be contested outside of North America, according to a report by the Sports Xchange.

The likely "home" team will be the Miami Dolphins. The likely home for the game is famed Wembley Stadium. The New York Giants and Buffalo Bills are possible opponents.

PLEASE don't send the Cowboys over there next year....Take the Giants...that travel will be rough for whichever teams are involved and will no doubt set them back a week or two!

No...the most recent one was Oasis from 2005 @ the old Wimbeley. I didn't know that they were that big in England...but they stadium AND the floor was 100% full. It was close to 150,000 or so.
