Beckham's contract is basically $250 Million for 5 years. The Los Angeles Galaxy will pay Beckham $6million per year as a base salary, Major League Soccer will pay $44 million per year for the rights to his image. This according to some sources.

Beckham's first MLS game is slated for the first or second wek of July after his contract with Real Madrid of the Spanish Primera Division expires.

another related note... it looks like Brazilian star Ronaldo is also on the way out of Real Madrid. Red Bull New York is expressing interest in Ronaldo.

He's just doing like every other superstar athlete is doing nowadays. Play when you're good for one or two teams for the majority of your career. Then, when you know you and your body have about had it, convince some halfwit organization to pick up a FAT contract on you. Then play out your days doing not much of anything but making a ton of cash. Recent examples in the NFL are Randy Moss and Edgerrin James. In baseball I'd say Roger Clemens falls under that category even tho he still plays fairly well.
