Defensive tackle Byron "Purple" Hayes is beginning to get some respect. The color purple refers to the marks he leaves on his opposing quarterbacks as well as the Leopard uniform he wears. Hayes has spent alot of game time in the backfield pounding tailbacks and running down passers trying to avoid his 6'3" 280 lb frame bearing down on them. Overlooked for the most part his junior year due to the wealth of talent at La Grange, and his sometimes unorthodox (some say uncoachable) style, Hayes anchored a stingy JV defense that allowed an average of only 10 points per contest last year. This year is different, as Coach Cauthern has seen the talent in this kid and given him the green light to wreak opposing backfields. Typically, the La Grange DT is small and fast, but not this year. Big and dominating would best describe Hayes. Watch this guy and you will be impressed.

Also, to not mention #44 Antonio "The Cat" McKenzie would be a mistake. This kid is everywhere on the field after the ball. Both of these tough newcomers deserve credit for how they have stepped up to fill some big shoes this year.

Should be interesting to see what happens when ol' Purp meets up with Sealy's 280+ average guards and center. Probably sound like a train wreck. In the words of Coach Faldyn at Booster Club last night "...it's LaGrange week and the intensity is already starting to build..."

As Austin P. would say "Yeah Baby, Shagadelic"!
That's almost half a ton of tiger meat in the middle. How does Andrus find any room to run around those guys? I would think they take up some real estate! Sealy is coming to town so better get prepared for a cat fight.

Hey, Pud - The question has been raised as to whether LG's mascot is a black leopard or the spotted variety. Personally, I thought it was spotted. Can you shed any light on this? Andrus must be finding room in there somewhere, since he has over 480 after two games. Sealy's center is about 275 (lost 10 pounds since reporting) and the guards are around 280 each unless the alternate left side guy (only 215) is in. Sealy likes to pull and lead with their tackles, so they put the big guys at guard.

it is not how big this guy is, it is how much he loves to hit and make the play. Don't stand between Hayes and the football during a game, it is the most dangerous place on earth!
