Report: NY might want Parcells

Giants could be courting Cowboys coach for general manager job

11:24 PM CST on Monday, January 8, 2007

By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News

IRVING – It appeared to be business as usual Monday at Valley Ranch, with coach Bill Parcells conducting a normal end-of-season meeting with his assistants that included a review of Saturday's 21-20 loss at Seattle.

But NFL.com, citing a high-ranking NFL source, reported Parcells could be a candidate for the New York Giants' general manager spot created by Ernie Accorsi's retirement.

New England vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli, Parcells' son-in-law, turned down a chance to interview for the job on Monday.

Parcells, owner and general manager Jerry Jones and Parcells' agent, Jimmy Sexton, could not be reached for comment.

In four seasons with the Cowboys, Parcells is 34-30 and still searching for his first playoff victory. He has one more year left on his contract – at $5.5 million – with the Cowboys, but he has not decided if he wants to return for a fifth season.

He is bound by his contract to make a decision by Feb. 1.

Parcells coached the Giants from 1983 to 1990, winning two Super Bowls. He left the Giants after the 1990 season because of health issues, compiling a 77-49-1 record.

Parcells was the coach and chief football operating officer of the New York Jets from 1997 to 1999 and held the executive title in 2000 before retiring.

Parcells has fond feelings for the Mara family and has many friends in the organization, including coach Tom Coughlin, whose future is uncertain despite having made the playoffs the last two seasons.

don't count on Fisher leaving Tennessee. The "Fisher to the Cows" rumor was good before this past season but Fisher said this was the best year he's ever had coaching once VY took over at QB and now the GM that he didn't like was kicked out of town. Bud Adams wouldn't have gotten rid of his GM if his HC was planning on leaving as well...

Well, we've all learned in the last few days how strong those new contracts are. Petrino, Saban, even what Rich Rodriguez tried to do and did.

The Giants told Bill no thanks to be their GM. Pretty obvious Bill wants out of Dallas, huh?

It is crumbling in Dallas...right at Jerry's feet!
