The 1998 National Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the Pro Football Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society and one of just 43 Master Strength and Conditioning Coaches in the world, Rod Cole enters his 14th year at Kansas State.

Prior to his arrival at K-State, Cole served a three-year stint as head strength coach and assistant football coach at Dodge City Community College. He also coached at Mulvane (Kan.) High School from 1984-90, was the defensive coordinator for the Bethany College football tour team which traveled to Sweden in 1985 and is a Fellowship of Christian Athletes advisor.

Cole was a football team captain, leading tackler and all-conference selection at Bethany College, where he helped Bethany to two conference titles and was a member of three nationally-ranked teams.

He was an all-state selection on the Kensington (Kan.) High School state championship football team and qualified for state in the discus. He also threw at Bethany.

Cole earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and health from Bethany in 1984 and his master’s of education in sports administration from Wichita State in 1988. He studied strength and conditioning in the Soviet Union and Bulgaria in 1988.

In 1985, Cole became a certified strength and conditioning specialist (NSCA) and in 1990 a certified Olympic lifts coach (USWF). In 2001, he was certified by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association before receiving the prestigious Master Strength and Conditioning Coach honor in 2004.

Cole, 43, has also been honored by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as the Big 12 Conference Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year in both 1997 and 1999.

Married to the former Stacey Eberspacher, the couple has six children: Aubrey, Kade, Kressyn, Shadd, Zane and Christian Dalaney.

Fran hired a fellow Kansas boy just like he is. I hope he does well & we start showing more athleticism on the field. Of course, you can't make chicken salad out of chicken ....! See what happens, but I still don't know why we got rid of Mike Clark, who won numerous awards in S&C, & now is the Head S&C coach for the Seattle Seahawks. Great guy & family too.

Hold on, I do know why: he was not a Fran guy who has to ask to leave the building for lunch daily. Unbelievable to treat grown men like that.
