Provided no injuries this week this is how things look for the playoffs.

Injuries- Everyone knows what a difference this can make. Ask Canyon or any other team who has had some serious ones this year. When 2 a days were over the starting 22 players were set. From that time to now Decatur has lost 7 of the 22. Of the 15 still remaining, 6 are playing with injuries. That leaves only 9 healthy guys of the original 22. Given this I am impressed that they still made it to 8-1 at this point, and have at least a share of the district title.

Offense- Even with some key injuries here and some nagging ones left, they still managed over 400 yards a game and 37 points a game. Scoring on long plays or sustaing drives have not been a problem when needed.

Defence- averaging 19 points a game given up. Not great, but not bad with the injuries suffered. Seem to do just well enough, other than one game.

Overall- Though they have not played but maybe 1-2 games up to their talent level, they have still had a good season. Their biggest problem so far also is the biggest problem for teams they have yet to see. The problem is this- They have not played as well as they are capable of.
This bad because they did not go 10-0, nor did they blow out some folks like they could have. They seem to consistantly play to the level of the team they are facing. This on the other hand is also dangerous for the teams they have yet to face. If the playoffs spark that competitive edge, some teams may be caught thinking the Eagles are not that good.

Time will tell if the Eagles can turn it up a notch. If they can they will be hard to beat. If they do not, the third season will not last long.

Just wondering Chief, who all did you play that you would consider a good/great team? Sometimes stats can be very misleading due to the level of competition you are playing.

As for injuries, I suspect if you have your skill players healthy, injuries won't slow you down too much. But, loose your QB and that all changes. There aren't many 3-A teams that can recover from a lost qb.

It takes everyone to win. If your O-line is banged and battered your QB wont have time to throw the ball or have time to do anything. If your Dline isnt there the other teams offense will run over the D. Skill positions are important but you can never forget about the big men in the trenches that start it all. Everyone is equally important all though i know the quarterback and running backs are very important. Just helps to have everyone healthy.

Sorry to hear about all that. I still think Decatur is pretty loaded though and will have a great playoff run.
