In his third year at the school, Hesseltine guided Ingleside to its first district title since 1995 by ending Sinton's reign atop the 30-3A standings. The Mustangs went 12-2 in reaching the Class 3A Division I state semifinals, rolling up 4,688 total yards (335 per game) along the way.

FIRST TEAM

OFFENSE

QUARTERBACK

Jerry Bell, Ray, jr.

Despite taking only a handful of snaps as a sophomore, Bell went on to earn Offensive MVP honors in 27-5A after completing nearly 60 percent of his passes for 2,618 yards and 27 TDs. Bell's contributions helped the Texans to a third straight playoff appearance.

RUNNING BACK

Kindred McClure, Calallen, sr.

A broken collarbone seven games into the season prevented McClure from reaching the 1,000-yard mark. Although he missed five games, McClure managed to rush for 807 yards and 12 TDs on 120 carries.

John Sehlke, George West, sr.

A unanimous first-team all-district pick in 31-2A, Sehlke scored 26 total TDs (24 rushing) to help the Longhorns return to the playoffs for the first time since 1999. He finished with 165 carries for 1,256 yards.

TIGHT END

Corey Lavender, Flour Bluff, so.

Lavender's offensive contributions were limited, but enough to help the Hornets return to the Region IV-4A Division I final for the second straight time. Of his three total catches, two went for TDs. The other completed a two-point conversion attempt.

Andrew Flores, Calallen, sr.

Flores, one of only two unanimous first-team all-district offensive line selections in 31-4A, didn't disappoint as Calallen reached the playoffs for the 22nd straight time. With Flores up front, the Wildcats piled up nearly 5,000 total yards.

Nick Hernandez, Calallen, sr.

Calallen's spread offense required the Wildcats to operate mostly out of the shotgun, making Hernandez a valuable asset at center. Duke went on to put up 3,274 all-purpose yards and had a hand in 41 total TDs (10 rushing, 31 passing).

Jaren Shears, Beeville, sr.

The only three-year starter up front for Beeville, Shears shared Most Valuable Offensive Line honors in 30-4A. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound tackle helped the Trojans average 345 total yards per game and consistently graded out near 90 percent.

UTILITY

Ryan Ueckert, Sinton, sr.

Even an ankle injury couldn't keep Ueckert from earning Defensive MVP honors in 30-3A. Playing on the interior, Ueckert preyed on quarterbacks and finished with 13 sacks. He recorded 50 tackles and four fumble recoveries.

LINEBACKER

Ruben Garcia, Ray, sr.

A knee injury last season didn't keep Garcia from returning to help lead the Texans to a third straight trip to the postseason. The Defensive MVP honors in 27-5A recorded 131 tackles, including 19 for a loss.

John Lawson, Miller, jr.

One of two Defensive Players of the Year in 30-4A, Lawson played a pivotal role as the Bucs returned to the playoffs for the first time in five years. He finished with 114 tackles, including a whopping 36 for a loss, six sacks, caused a fumble and recovered three.
