Just watched Transformers 3 Dark of the moon. Wowwww awesome movie. Lots of great individual parts that make the entire thing great. Even the asian guy from the hangover is in there and hes funny. Tons of action and even thought Megan Foxx wasn't in it, this other girl was still pretty fine herself. Overall, it was an awesome movie and I definitely recommend you go see it.

So, I've been laid up with a foot injury and have been watching some movies.

The Other Woman with Natalie Portman was ummm, sad.
Just Go with It was your typical Adam Sandler movie.
The Green Hornet took some time to get going, but it was OK. Seth Rogen was not convincing.
Beastly was pretty bad, lol

and I went to the movies to watch Transformers and I loved it...it was lots of fun!

Rented Insidious and Just Go With It

Insidious - Not a bad horror movie considering it's just a PG-13 movie. It did have a few creepy images that left an impression on my 9yo son. 3/4

Just Go With It - Returned it without even watching it. I've kind of lost my enthusiasm for Adam Sandler films over the years.

Devil - I was a little late seeing this one. It was good but not great. I can't help but think that so much more could have been done with this concept. 2.5/4

Captain America

I didn't really like it, but I'm not really into this type of movie to be honest. I thought that a lot of things were rushed to form the majority of the movie. Things just came way too easily for Captain America.

2.1 out of 4

But apparently next summer it's going down in "The Avengers" Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor will be teaming up. That trailer looked pretty cool.

Oh yeah, those two scenes stick out with the DBox imho.
I'm glad the seats didn't move all the time. There where periods where you actually forgot you were seated in those. Then all of a sudden, blam! the seats shook and moved WITH the 3-d picture. It was fun!
We went to the Santikos Silverado 16 in NW San Antonio. While not as popular as the Palladium at the Rim, this theater is definitely one of the nicer ones in our area.

Both have a bar. Huebner Oaks used to be the shiznit, but Santikos really topped the competition with the Palladium, Silverado and the Mayan themed theater off IH 35 on the SW side. I've been to the Quarry before and it is a good one. That one is owned by Regal.
I don't know, those huge Greek columns at the Palladium look pretty cool to me. You also don't see many two-story theaters.

Maybe it's been mentioned already, but I just saw "Buried" and that flick is not for the claustrophobic! Pretty intense. Almost the entire movie basically takes place inside the coffin with this guy. (I'll bet it was one of the lowest budget films ever!) The film revolves around Iraq-based American truck driver Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds), who, after being attacked, finds himself buried alive in a wooden coffin, with only a lighter, flask, flashlight, knife, glowsticks, pencil and a mobile phone to help him escape before the oxygen in the coffin runs out. The ending surprised me.....

Rented a lot of crap recently.

Eagle - Teen/tween ripoff of Gladiator. Long and boring.
Vanishing on 7th Street - Great build up and acting that leads to nothing. Literally no ending.
Priest - I like the concept. That's about it. It was over in the blink of an eye.
Season of the Witch - Cage did this for the check to bail himself out. What a waste of Ron Perlman's god given talents.

Dang! You're a little behind, ain't ya? Was this a rental? There's some old movies out there that are much better than most of the new movies coming out. A couple of movies I liked that I don't hear anybody talk about are "Crossroads" with Ralph Macchio, and "The Iron Triangle" with Beau Bridges. Both were excellent movies, in my opinion.

Apollo 18 - Not bad but not good. Kind of meh.

Moneyball - Rented it for a week and never saw it.

The Beaver - For a story about a grown man shoving his hand into the depths of a furry beaver, it really wasn't that bad. In fact, I think I have next years Halloween costume ready to go.

Attack the Block - Absolutely awesome. If you liked Shaun of the Dead, you will love this one.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - Not scary at all. Really disappointing.

Paranormal Activity 3 - I liked it. Not as many scares as the previous two but still kept me watching.

Fright Night - What a remake should be, much like Dawn of the Dead. Took the same premise and went a totally different, but surprisingly good direction.

The Help - I went out and learned to make good fried chicken after watching this one.

3 out of 4 stars. I think it was funnier the second time around. :D

In Time- 2.75 out of 4.
Pretty decent Sci/Fi concept. I kept thinking the first 30 minutes of the movie, "that looks like a taller version of Justin Timberlake.... oh wait." He is turning out to be an OK actor. Why do all the cars of the future look like Dodge Challengers?

Never heard of it. How so?

well its a documentary of how a fat guy went on a 90 day juice fast. he dropped about 100 lbs and began to teach people about how to eat healthy and how vegetable and fruit juice can help the body to repair itself. I have been doing mostly juices for a little over 3 weeks and have dropped 30 lbs. I feel great, have more energy, and believe that I will be better in the long run for eating healthier.

the following is from IMDB.com
Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead (2010) More at IMDbPro »

100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross is at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. In the mirror he saw a 310lb man whose gut was bigger than a beach ball and a path laid out before him that wouldn't end well- with one foot already in the grave, the other wasn't far behind. FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD is an inspiring film that chronicles Joe's personal mission to regain his health. With doctors and conventional medicines unable to help long-term, Joe turns to the only option left, the body's ability to heal itself. He trades in the junk food and hits the road with juicer and generator in tow, vowing only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice for the next 60 days. Across 3,000 miles Joe has one goal in mind: To get off his pills and achieve a balanced lifestyle. While talking to more than 500 Americans about food, health and longevity, it's at a truck stop in Arizona where Joe meets a truck driver who suffers from the same rare condition. Phil Staples is morbidly obese weighing in at 429 lbs; a cheeseburger away from a heart-attack. As Joe is recovering his health, Phil begins his own epic journey to get well. What emerges is nothing short of amazing - an inspiring tale of healing and human connection. Part road trip, part self-help manifesto, FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD defies the traditional documentary format to present an unconventional and uplifting story of two men from different worlds who each realize that the only person who can save them is themselves.

Watched Drive recently...
" I give you five minutes when you get there. Anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours, no matter what. Anything a minute either side of that and you're on your own. I don't sit in while you're running it down. I don't carry a gun. I drive."

I liked it. You never get the background on Gosling's character but WOW, some of the scenes were just brutal. My kind of movie. 3.5/5 stars.

I understand, he does have a tendency to linger a bit too long with some of his scenes. Gangs of New York is a fine example of that. I found the same thing in Hugo. I guess that would be my only complaint. The visual effects were amazing.

I haven't read this thread....but when you say "movie rentals"...what exactly do you mean??

Do people still rent movies?? I know all our video stores closed around here and all we have now are Redboxes. I have "rented" a few movies from Amazon.com.

How are most movies rented these days?

My boss gets a movie in every few days from Netflix. I had a membership for that once and lost the very first movie I rented. I finally gave up looking after 3 months of being charged $7.99 a month and finally told them to charge my account. So in all, I think I paid around $50 for "The Brave Little Toaster." I cancelled the subscription and went to straight streaming.

MIB 3 - Definitely better than 2 and almost as good as 1. ;) 3/4

The Apparition - I want my $1 back. :flaming: (-2)/4

Hope Springs - I'm normally not one for Meryl Streep movies but I like Tommy Lee Jones and his dry sense of humor. Worth the rent if you wife says she wants to watch a love story. 3/4

Anyone see the Hobbit yet in 48 frames per second and 3-D? I have two relatives that gave it rave reviews.

The Hobbit in 3-D and HFR.
Very good movie and as clear as can be. It didn't necessarily "feel" like a movie. It was almost like a super HD movie on the big screen. Took a bit to develop but it was very good overall.
3.25 out of 4.

Looper with that kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun and Bruce Willis. I like it... not gonna say more.
3 out of 4.

I really wanted to like it, but ultimately I did not like it.

WARRIOR!!!!! on EPIX1 now, channel 380 on DISH. Forget about all the other ones above, you gotta see this one thru the end. It stars Joel Edgarton, Tom Hardy, and Nick Nolte. Nolte is the father to these brothers. If you like or even watch cage fighting, you should be interested in this movie. Even if you are not, the storyline is worth the watch. "Warrior"......let's get ready to ruuuuuumble.

Looper - Awesome movie. I loved it.

Asylum Blackout - Decent horror/suspense movie. The atmosphere was great but the pacing killed it a little.

The Pact - I love low budget, indy horror and this one was a good find.

Identity Thief - disappointed
The Call -- fast-paced & intense...loved it!
Beautiful Creatures - meh
Broken City -- pretty good
Silver Linings Playbook -- very good
This is 40 -- Melissa McCarthy's cameo was the best part!

AT THE MOVIES:

This is the End -- hilarious!!!
The Heat -- hilarious -- I love Melissa McCarthy
The Lone Ranger -- fun!
World War Z -- could have been "fleshed" out some, but overall decent movie -- can't wait for the sequel
Pacific Rim -- perfect summer blockbuster

 :)

Ted - No where near as funny as I thought i would be. I didn't find it offensive or graphic but just kind of bleh.

Movie 43 - I laughed more during his movie. Hugh Jackman in a ballsy role, incestuous Namoi Watts, and the best basketball speech I have ever heard had me laughing my butt off.

HAHA Movie 43 was a trip! A lot of cringe worthy moments, but you are right that basketball speech was AWESOME!!!
