i just got a 1gb stick of corsair ddr400, my computer has always used 2x512mb ddr400....my motherboard has 3 dimms....
for some reason, i cannot get my computer to boot when i have all 3 sticks installed, but it will work fine if i use 1, or any combination of 2 of them, in every combination of dimms.....

any ideas...maybe i have to turn on a setting in my bios or cmos??

i really need to get both gb's working, i am getting ready to install vista this afternoon.....

I was not aware that this was still a problem on newer motherboards, but it used to be that all the dimms needed to be the same size.

What you have described is exactly what happened when someone attempted to mix dimm sizes.

I would look for a new bios flash from the motherboard manufacturer.

But, probably your easiest fix is to just purchase another 1GB stick.

Lookup the exact model computer that you have, and look at the bank schema---it will tell you the combos of ram that you may run. Also check the max ram that it says your board will accept. You may be over that limit with all 3 dimms installed.

That will be $35 for phone support----or give 3AFan something nice from me for Christmas....

Just put the kblabablob in the gizameo and twist the the beandara to the left, then set the chingazio to mid range. Once you'e done that, push the danglria switch to the right, slowly passing the kaactre mark on the dial. If that doesn't work, take two asprin and try it again in the morning.:D :nerd: :nerd:

on some computers the smaller ones have to be in front and step up in size from there.

Look up the board specs because some boards will only take 2x 512 or 1 X 1GB and will not allow you to mix both. You might be out of luck on that one. Also make sure that the speed of the Sticks are still the same. You might have 2X 512's at 800 MHZ and the 1 GB at 1Ghz... some boards will clock the higest speed of the RAM down to the lowest Speed, but that is something your MOBO manual will have as well.

the board can support up to 3gb and all 3 of my sticks are ddr400, pc3200 @ 400mhz....its all compatible, its just a matter of getting the board to recognize all 3 at the same time...

im gonna reset the cmos, and if that doesnt work, then flash the bios...i guess worse case, ill invest in another 1 gb stick and sell the 2x512 sticks...

anybody interested in buying 2x512 ddr400, pc3200 @ 400mhz corsair ram??? haha....ill see it for $100....

well i figured it out...

if i use 2 double ranked memory sticks, it automatically disables the 3rd dimm...looks like im gonna have to find another 1gb stick and get rid of the 2x512...grr....
