And your kids were good. Man you were not kidding about Aston.
We contained him most of the day but I don't think anyone can hold him all day. Maybe UT or The Cowboys but not anyone else I have seen.

I'll say it again to all who said they have seen the slot T...LH runs it to perfection.

Welllll. It has been a verrrrrry futile season so far.

Thanks Lion75 it's nice to hear that after the way you dogded us before the game. Vernon was by far the purest football team we've played this year. Expect to see them again next year about the same time I'd think. As for the uniforms, I go on the theory of if it ain't broke don't fix it. They added some Ronald McDonald looking orange and white socks in one game last year and almost lost the game. Threw them in the bondfire the next week and haven't come close to getting beat since. We're the visitors this week so the uniforms shouldn't be so hard on your eyes.:) Looking forward to a great game. Go Bobcats! LOL Kenco13

Maybe, but you do not understand how it works. We don't "read"
during the play. All that is done in the offensive set up. The only
read we make is the M linebackers and FS. Everybody else has some place to go and a gap to defend. If you are there you get hit. The premise is really simple. The d line chops and goes under the oline to prevent traps and tye up the line the m backers and fs play to flow to the ball. One defensive end is up and stunts
and the other 5 guys get to positions. That leaves your backfield
in trouble since there are only 4 of them and two of them have the ball most of the play although you can run the QB. That is still 3 on 5 and the lineman usually tye up the middle. There are no reads just positions with the ss and corners playing as linebackers if there are no recievers. I am not giving away state secrets here. It is obvious in our sets. But not obvious in our technique. You think you are defending against one thing but it really is something else. I still think your O will give us problems
and I have seen some film. But I do believe you will be unpleasantly surprised by the problems we cause your O. :nerd:

At least get something that is not all rusted up and worn out.

Oops! Meant the above for this post. Gotta learn how to operate a mouse correctly.

"The line has the advantage of the snap count. The only possible way your guys can beat the lines is through illegal procedure. An effective bull rush is good only twice. After that a 4 year old ballerina can block it. Overloading the line is a simplistic concept, and it does have it's weaknesses. It works ONLY ON HEAVY LINEMAN. If you run that scheme against lighter atheletes, it is an exercise in futility. "

Cool. What kind of field do you guys have. We installed one of those turf fields a couple of years ago and man it is a gas. Always
painted and perfect. When they decided to build a school to support 4a size the field needed upgrading. We are supposed to open a new building in 2008 to hold 1500 kids. I wonder how long it will take us to fill it? I think this year we have about 430.

Our field is grass. If we need a turf field we can either use Leander's or Round Rocks palace field.

It's sad to say, because the LH boys deserve better...but the entire LH "stadium" (term used VERY loosely) is terrible. The field condition didnt look all that great, but it was late in the year when i saw it, and being natural grass and all....well, you know. But overall, it would rank right up there with the worst stadium in the area (Luling is pretty ugly too).

I hope you bigtime supporters of the Panthers put maximum pressure on the decision makers to do something about your facilities. Is it on any future bond issues? And dont tell me its that you arent "rich" like other areas (I have heard that before on this board)...your average income per household is higher than Hays county's....and both Wimberley and Hays have much better facilities.

so yes the scheme works when the backers and defensive backs can get good reads..but week in and week out our offensive line that is way too small and way to slow and way to un-athletic always prevails over almost the same scheme that you're going to bring to the table. Our backs carry out fakes so good i promise you that late in the fourth you will still be looking for the ball on almost everysingle play.

Even though you fill every gap, that half step that our back will get on your's because he got confused for a split second will slowly wear you down. IMO i dont see alot of big runs coming from LH in this game, but what i do see is a somewhat ( just enough ) confused Celina defense giving up rumble after rumble from # 44 and # 20 and # 5

:D

you have seen every offense that can be imagined and you have stopped it with surprising ease...but this is a whole new storm.

size doesn't matter against the Liberty Hill Panthers

speed doesn't matter against the Liberty Hill Panthers

disipline doesn't matter against the Liberty Hill Panthers

in the end our line will wear down whoever is in thier way and hopefully that will be enough to prevail over a very talented team for the first ever state championship in this tiny little towns history!

GO PANTHERS!

While LH is a rushing machine, the ultimate stat, points, is about the same. LH=605 CHS=603

LH does have a good defense. They have held their opponents to 294 points. You can take the top five scoring games against LH and take those points away. You can also take the CYoe game away and LH would have held its opponents to 119 points so far this season.

On the other side of the field, Celina has held its opponents to 117 points this season...
without having to take the top five, oops, six games scores away.

As much as the LH faithful talk about their running game, I don't think we have time to cover their defense.

Wait, we just did. By the way, history is against you. Go Celina. Make it 8.

Thats cool, do we get to count the no touchdowns at end of games inside the 5 that we took a knee to end the carnage?

Add another 70 points :D

The key is not points scored...that wont be an issue.
It will be time of possession, turnovers, and points allowed.

That stat is totally different
Celina allows 7
LH allows 21

Celina will control the ball and the clock

Celina fans have it all figured out on paper, stats, stats, stats,.....
The real game is played on the field, yes Celina is a great and winning team, and has some impressive stats, however, we dont need to take anything away from our defense to make them good (ie you aint driving purple backers crazy with your clip board full of numbers). You could however, add some real competition to the Celina schedule and maybe the Defense would give up a td or two more a game. Do you really think you would have kept teams like Wimberly, Cuero, and Giddings out of the end zone? Have you been isolated in 2A that long? Giddings defense was able to stop the WOS offensive machine, however, only slowed ours a bit. (I think they held our offense to say 350 yards or so, 25% below average for LH). Your defense is no better than Giddings, however, Giddings had to play a tough schedule. Im not foolish enough to say that Celina is not a great team and would not have had that same record had they played a tough schedule, however, the bobcats would have given up more points. Also if we played some of those girls Catholic schools yall did in regular season, we would have had 70+ point games. Celina is an impressive program that knows how to win. Stats are history and against other programs, the real story will be told on the field. I know that both teams are great and will be ready to play, the question is if all the paper gaming you have done to prove to yourselves that Celina will win gets blown away on the grid iron, WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR CROW STUFFED WITH THOSE STAT SHEETS?

Come now, I never insulted you or Celina, in fact I made numerous complements. Celina is a great program that knows how to win. I was just commenting on all of the stats, like scoring 605 to 603, or whatever, allowing 200+ points, taking away games to up the allowed average,,,, etc, etc. I did offer you a choice of stuffing, so what will it be southern cornbread, northern traditional, or Texas 3A statsheets?

Ya'll keep talkin the talk. First time in the finals you might be a bit
more humble. I agree that some people are over the top. But we
have been to the dance and have a pretty good idea what it takes to win it all. The coachin staff well shoot I don't even know how many times they have coached this game or assisted. I like
LHPANTHERMOM. Smart level headed. She knows this will be a good game and so do I. But this years stats do come into play.
Your schedule was tougher but not by that much. Enough to change the stats a little but not alot.

I do know that if we win it will be Coach Fords tenth state ring as a coach.

I haven't and I personally can't wait to see them. I want to see this defense everyone keeps talking about.

I have seen some film of it and asked around of people who have seen it and it looks like it is interesting to see. Its definately a defense that either wokrs like a charm or doesnt work at all. theres no half-way with this defense. But this is an enticing matchup between a defense and an offense. because Celina fans say this is a defense designed to stop the Slot-t and similar rushing attacks. and LH's offense is good enough to gain yards on any defense. So this is one game Im not going to miss. after seeing film I think LH will have some success right up the middle if they can get the blocks on the DT's, I dont think any long developing plays to bode on the outside will work. This defense swarms to the ball in a hurry and brings the wood when they get there. And it is still 70 hours and 20 Minutes away..... this week just keeps dragging on...........

Billy Fred,

You probably have some stats on this but I can't imagine anyone in the state having a tougher schedule than Liberty Hill has.

I just took a quick look at who they have played...Burnet(4A), Cuero, Wimberly, Hutto, Cameron Yoe, Giddings, Hondo. 7 teams that will play you very tough or who have a lot of talent.

I looked at Celina's schedule and I would only put 4 of the teams that they played in the same category as those 7 teams I mentioned...Robinson, Dallas Madison, Denton Liberty Christian, and Vernon.

I would also say that Celina had many more weak teams on the schedule than Liberty Hill.

It doesn't make Liberty Hill better or Celina worse but I do think there is more than just a little difference in their schedule and Celina's. I think there is a big difference.

The schedule for Celina is rated 30 in the state while LH is number 1. It is a seperation statistically that has indeed been calculated as part of the rankings as they exist. In other words,
it has been accounted for in the ranking system.

You have an enrollment of 599 students to pick from for your program and we have 429. Thats 170 more students to get your talent from. Thats enough to start an entire new football program. No wonder you can run it down peoples throats, you get the pick of the litter.

That is not a true statement, that is what the Communist News Networks (ABC,NBC.CBS,CNN) tell you, what you have is a problem in Baghdad with Sadyr and a bunch of murdering thugs supported by Iran...the rest of the country is pretty quiet...but the damn reporters only hang out in Baghdad so you dont get the real picture. Far from a civil war.

On the other hand more people are murdered in Detroit or DC or St Louis, not combined, in each city, each year than have been killed in all of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Panama all rolled up into one.

I think it is a bias in the system. Fullbacks are a throw back to the days of 3 and a cloud of dust. I can say for sure that O'Neal
was terrific. But I do think that Aston should have gotten HM at least even though he is a fullback. You really had to see him to appreciate his abililty as a runner. I saw him get hit 3 times on that td run and he barely even slowed down.

I have not seen Liberty Hill play. I saw Giddings a couple of times. While Giddings is indeed a good (great?) team, LH proved they were most likely one dimensional. With Brock out, the offense could not keep up. Could they have if Brock were in? You decide.

That said, I did see Celina play Dallas Madison. Very impressive. Celina just seemed to get tougher as the game wore on. They never got tired.

No prediction except that it should be a fun game to watch. Fans on both sides should be proud of this opportunity.

“We haven’t seen anything like that before,” said Celina head coach Butch Ford. “Their slot-T is very similar to what Paul Pewitt ran last year, but they’re bigger than Pewitt, and Pewitt was big. It’s a whole different style from what we’ve seen. They don’t throw the ball (much); they’ve thrown the ball four times in the last four or five games.”

Now that is IMPRESSIVE!!! The above was out of the Herald Democrat out of Sherman TX. I agree with Butch we haven't seen anything like what we're about to see Saturday.

I did not realize that LH has only played 14 games.
This throws the 603-605 PA numbers out the window.

I have not seen any AP or computers picking Celina yet. I'm gonna check rivals.com

I would have loved to watched him play against a team he could break out against a little more. Would have liked to see some of his moves in the open.

Wow...what a match up with Celinas #1 defense against LH's #1 offense. On the other side, Celinas #5 offense against LH's #14 defense..this side of the battle should be the "maker/breaker" of the game.

Last year, when Wimberley played WOS, we were #1 defense, they were #1 offense. On the other side, we were #2 offense and WOS was #14 defense. Very similar comparison. Blow out 52-29.

In the final game, Wimberley was #1 defense, Gaineville #14 offense. We were #2 offense, they were #2 defense. Close game 21-7.

My conclusion is...(and this is a shocker)...Defense Wins Championships!!!!!

Am I saying this will happen here? No, of course not. But since we are lookin g at stats, I thought you'd want to see the results of VERY similar ratings from last year.

Celina has always played with Defense in mind. We were number one and one last year and one and five this year. Not bad for a move up from 2a. But that was to be expected because the best 2a programs are really pretty good. I think the top 5 last year in 2a would have gone 3 rounds in most of 3a with the exception of region 3. Tough region. 4 Is tough too but not as deep.

We have 3 region titles from the 60's in class b when they would not allow us to play for state. 74 co champs with Big Sandy in class B and 6 titles in 2a since 1995.

If Celina has a good coaching staff they'll win this game. Stack 10 guys on the line of scrimmage for the first two downs (Allman up the middle) then send guys on the outside on third down. They arent gonna pass so dont even worry, once you shut them down you have to score and put pressure on them to hurry up cause they'll turn it over. I've seen it since '04 and watched them versus Hondo and its never any different no new plays, no trickery, no passing if the Wimberley coaches have figured it out surely another coaching staff can. Good luck Celina I hope yall shut them down and send them home with a loss.

I am not nearly as upset as Gold-33 seems to be....hell, we got beat, its that simple. Our defense worried us all year, and we got nailed for it. No big surprise, if you step back and look at the season as a whole. Hondo was better than us that night.

We have been 35-5 over the last 3 years...dominated LH like they were our football ball boys all 3 years...won state, beat Cuero....come on...this has been a great ride.

Now, Daddy, as far as "having LH's back"...who are you kidding? Most of you LH "fans" (read again...most...not all) have been nothing less than unsportsman-like and even down-right crappy each year you lost, as seen on the TxPrep forum. It got worse every year. And you expect us to "have your back"? You deserve what you get...and tomorrow will be the big one.

And LHPM..of course it doesnt mean anything other than stats....means nothing come tomorrow...just like the things you said in favor of a LH victory...means nothing come tomorrow. We all know if I said things IN FAVOR of LH, you'd high five and say "YEAH!!!".

I hope for no injuries on both sides...and a Celina victory!!!

And it's always been known that it's not how well you played during pre-season or district, but how well you play in the playoffs that makes the difference. We were by far the better team than Bandera in 2002 the night we played them. That certainly made no difference in the playoffs.

[B]They won't. If you believe that then you need to watch some game film. They execute very well. The key is that Celina
plays a technique heavy D designed to trap your execution before it starts by being at the point of attack before you are. It means a disciplined bunch of guys who have to watch hours of game tape and run literally 50 60 plays of defensive preparation against the scout teams every day. By the time they line up they will know where you are going to be. And if you think that does not mean anything
Most of the team we play are running teams and run some type of misdirection and counter stuff. It works once in a while. That is why we give up 7 to 14 points a game. Can LH stop our
O is the question that needs to be answered. Oh and one other thing. Most of these guys have been playing together since middle school. And guess what. The varsity coaches are the middle school coaches. So what system do they play in middle school?
That is why they are so good at it.

Congrats Liberty Hill. It was a great game with changes of momentum. Celina's defense did what they needed to do and Liberty Hill's Defense did what they needed to do. Turns out the difference tonight was the kicking teams. Celina left 5 point on the field with two missed extra point attempts and a missed field goal. Liberty Hill kicked their field goal for the difference in the game and a State Championship.

Enjoyed a great game. Two great programs and who knows, this could happen again next year. I would like to see it again.

Here is my analysis of the game.

Defense wins championships.

Liberty Hill's defense won the game for them. Period.

So, you mom's better not get on here and try to nominate Body as player of the week. It must be someone from your defense. Perhaps who ever it was that won the game for you by tackling Waldrep on that 4 and 1 or 2 with about 2 minutes left. That was the play of the game and thus the player of the game.

Wow. That was one of the best football games I have ever had the pleasure of watching Celina play.

The LH fans were loud and proud, and it was a classic Texas high school football environment. Benny is exactly correct....for each of the long plays that 44 and 5 had, it came down to Celina stopped the LH offense enough to win the game, and we had ample opportunity to do so, but the LH defense held just enough to be able to allow the LH offense to go down and just get the FG that wins it.....there was no penalty controversy, no injuries that would cause an upset in the balance of power, no weather that interfered......what we had here was a clear case of 2 really good football teams going at it for the full 4 quarters and LH inched across the line just ahead of the Bobcats to become State Champs....

It was an honor to get to witness this game....and if we all are truly honest, I think both teams came and lived up to their billing, but the LH defense made the plays it took to win the title, and LH fully deserved the trophy on this night.....

Celina has lots of high caliber players coming back, as does LH, so who knows.....maybe a rematch next year....all we gotta do is import a new kicker so we gots a chance....

those of you that missed this one.....buy the dvd....it was greatness....

AWESOME GAME

LIBERTY HILL PANTHERS 2006 3A D2 STATE CHAMPS.

Celina Bobcats, You are a top notch, outstanding group of young men that displayed tremendous sportsmanship. Your community and students have much to be proud of on and off the field. If I lived in north texas, I would want to live in Celina and have my sons be a part of a program like yours.

Now to my community, Great show of support, and class. LH Panther football team you were outstanding, the defense took shots all year by everyone out side our community. Tonight as in the past weeks your rose to the call again and again, superb perfrormance! Offense yall did a great job against the #1 rated defense in the state, only punting the ball 1 time. The offensive line deserves special mention, the way Celina stacked the box and you responded by opening holes and protecting the QB, that young men, was quite an impressive feat........kudos to you guys. I am blessed to be a part of this community and have my sons a part of our program.

There was no domination you you over us this year, you barely sweaked by our team.

I have said it before and will say it again, stats are fun, but the only stat that matters is the one on the score board at the end of the game.

Seem the "poor old boy"s that play in that "crappy old staduim", (that you ran into the ground in one of your earlier posts) get to carry home a nice shiney State ChampionShip Trophy to add to thier record.

You only got one thing right, "We deserved what we got, we earned it."

Don't know about you. But we here in Liberty Hill are gonna have one Very Merry Christmas!!!!!

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

Joy and heartache
Liberty Hill on top; Westlake falls.
By Kevin Robbins

AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF

Sunday, December 24, 2006

SAN ANTONIO — The Westlake Chaparrals kept stepping as long as they could. But their improbable march to a state football championship ended Saturday night to a team so dominant that only one school in five years could beat it.

The Southlake Carroll Dragons (16-0) won their third consecutive Class 5A, Division I title and their fourth in five seasons. They beat Westlake 43-29 in a game that was far less certain than a 14-point victory might suggest.

But the win was theirs. In Texas, Southlake green is the color of money.

Earlier in the day, in Waco, Liberty Hill delivered Central Texas its second straight Class 3A, Division II state championship, a 22-19 thriller over Celina that wasn't decided until the final seconds.

The Panthers won the title by snapping Celina's 31-game winning streak, thanks to a kicker named Gio Magallon who had quit football two years ago and then worked his way back onto the team for his senior season.

Magallon's 31-yard field goal with six seconds left sent the crowd at Floyd Casey Stadium into a frenzy. He was swept into the sea of fans, all wanting a piece of the hero who hadn't tried a field goal all year. But his biggest congratulations came courtesy of a kiss from his girlfriend, Kelliana Little, who was receiving her own hugs and congratulations from crying classmates.

"Congratulations, gentlemen," head coach Jerry Vance told his players, "you are the Division II, Class 3A champions!" It was the understatement of the day, maybe the year.

"I knew from the first game we were gonna win it," one fan told another.

"He hadn't kicked a field goal in four years. But I knew he was gonna do it!" his friend replied.

Purple and gold streamers flew from the stands. Cameras everywhere captured the moment. A father and his young son approached quarterback Thomas Perrin.

"This here's a Tiny-Mite quarterback," the father told Perrin, "and he really looks up to you."

Like Wimberley last year, Liberty Hill gave Central Texas a trophy in the 3A ranks. Westlake appeared on track to stun the state's No. 1-ranked team — and the nation's No. 3-ranked squad — but fell short in the final two quarters.

One streak — Celina's 31-game skein — ended dramatically. But another, Carroll's 48-game streak, continued.

After the game my sons wanted to go on the field and meet some of the players. Jake my oldest was the Pop warner Tiny Mite QB and has always looked up to Thomas. I didnt know I was being quoted when I told Thomas that. That was Cool.

I saw y'all over there when you were lined up for the picture, but I couldn't get there before you left. I did meet some at George's and that was great. What a great game it was. It's very difficult to know ahead of time how well two teams will match up with each other that have not played before. Maybe that's why I don't typically "talk" a lot beforehand......or maybe I just don't like having stuff thrown back in my face if I'm wrong (which only happens once in a blue moon ;) ).

All week before the game, there was a lot of talk from both sides - the # 1 defense vs the # 1 offense. Then there was the "LH's weak defense" and the "Celina's so-so offense" talk. Now, there seems to be some "we would've if......"

What we ended up with was an incredible game - one that could have gone either way. Several Celina players stand out in my mind as being very good playmakers - # 22, # 27 & # 71. Overall, I was impressed with the Celina team as a whole. And, overall, when it came down to the final tick of the clock, the Panthers had done everything necessary to get the win.

Congrats to the Celina Bobcats for the great 2006 season.
