This is week number four for me, and hopefully this will be as much fun as last week!

I will be updating play by play (several plays at a time, mostly the big ones, and maybe we can throw in some stats from the press box.

RB Charley Waldrep (Sophomore) has 1,500+ yards with 25+ TD's

RB Troy McCartney is another great sophomore (backup)

Junior RB/WR/CB D'Anton Lynn is good wherever he touches the ball.

Just a side note (not that it will apply in this game) Celina has had some very good game interception-wise this season, including one with 7 earlier this year.

They could have scored two more touchdowns, but they decide to win with CLASS, something that you lack

Does this make the LH district one of the toughest in the state? Hutto in the finals last year, LH this year. Next year it will be a war. Hutto and LH will be monsters. Taylor will be better and Rockdale has a tremendous group of young talent coming to the varsity level and Cmaeron will be down some but they will be dangerous every week like always.

Yes, I would say that you & Bobcat Benny toned it down towards the end of the week.

I listened to the game and was amazed at the defense. Had to be frustrating for Vernon. The Bobcats won all parts of the game except maybe special teams and I don't if there was a winner in that part of the game.

This game showed that one A player a couple of B level players are not as good as a team of almost all B players playing as a unit. Celina doesnt out talent you they out everything else you. They were the better team. I think Vernon's Coach had a horrible game plan on offense and was out of his league. Celina's " Been here before" Attitude was the bigget key to this game. AShton Whiteside couldnt of had more than 15 carries or so. I would have given it to him 40 times. Still might lose but you make them stop him 40 times which I think is impossible. Coach Hall decided to do what other Vernon coaches do and that is try to change things up. Just ask Chedrick Ricks, Brenton Gabbert, Kyle Williams, Terrance Gains, Benard Scott, Chad McBride, and many many others how that feels to lose playing a game you havent played all year. I will give credit to Celina's D-Line for scaring the heck out of Coach Hall, it worked like a charm. Saying that I was not impressed with either team tonight and think LH has a GREAT chance to beat Celina. They were nothing like I had been lead to believe they were. They are nothing compared to Vernon and Southlake's great champioship teams in the 90's or even the Sealy teams of the same decade. WE all knew that Vernon was capable of playing bad, we were on a good roll, but Celina was supposed to be a powerhouse and I thougt they were just a good team that beat a good team on a bad day. Ummm....how many yards of total offense did Vernon have? Celina is a consistantly good defensive team and they proved that tonight against a good Vernon team that had a very good running game. It should be a heck of a game against LH. A dominating rushing team against a dominating rushing defense. Looking forward to listening to this game. Congrats to Vernon on a great year. Nothing to hang your heads about.

And BTW, correct me if I'm wrong....but isn't it ASton Whiteside? Shouldn't someone from Vernon know that?

Celina played a great game, there defense was the best I have seen this year. The offense while not great is very opportunistic and was extremely well coached, it dosn't hurt that they seem to always end up in good field position because of that D. Vernon was outcoached in the second half which became obvious after about 5 minutes and 14 points. Celina showed alot of class, more than afew of their posters on this board, and deserved to win. The kids rarely make mistakes and play hard every down.

Congrats to Vernon on a great season, you made it farther than lots of people expected and should be proud of this season.

Should be a good game next week but if Celina shows like they did in this game I think they will win.

I'd have to say Celina won the special teams battle....after our 1 basically nonexistent punt, we had good special teams play the rest of the way (well except neither team seemed to be able to do much on extra points well) - Celina had a couple decent punt returns, and a very good kickoff return, and we held their return teams to little yardage....

Vernon was obviously a good team from what we saw, but Celina's defense performed as advertised and dominated the game, and that was the difference....

oh yes....and besides that horse 25 having a good game, that LB 51 had a good game as well....he made several good plays behind the line of scrimmage to stuff our plays...congrats to Vernon on a deep run...you represented your town well...

Wild Texan, I was referring to the miffed punt and two missed xtra points as a bad day. Yes other than that you guys may have done well. But add it all up together and the special teams were not so special. Not quite so important when your defense does what Celina did yesterday.

Well the run is over for my team. Celina really lived up to all the hype. They had a lot of hype to live up to as well. Anyway, the defense was just amazing. #71 played as good a game as I have seen both on offense & defense. Excellent player. The linebackers were as quick as advertised #1 also was impressive. He made several good plays on the bubble screens. Celina coachiong did a great job positioning 10 players in the box. Celina loaded up against the run. The free safety (someone mentioned he was all state) played where a LB would line up. Celina operated under the your going to have to beat me passing theory. Worked to a T! Vernon's Qb had no time to pass, I thinbk he was sacked 2 or 3 times. Fumbled once on a sack. We just did not have the passing game to rely on.

Don't be fooled about Celina's athletes...fooled by saying they are B level players. They had several A level players. A huge o-line and Qb's that could run. #5 had a good day running that draw and he was a load himself. Hard running all night by the backs.

Vernon did have a great year. Whiteseide did get 100 yards and he is a great player. (I agree I would have spread the defense out -- in the spread -- which we did do in the 4th qr -- and run the draw to Whiteseide and or QB keeper out of it). Whiteside scored out of it. But under center in the Wing T Celina's defense was not going to give up many yards. Our #51 really had a good day. He had several tackles for loss and maybe 2 sacks. Great play. Vernon looked good for a half. We did give up the big pass play but those things happen when you play a team as explosive as Celina.

I'm dissapointed in the loss but very proud of the Vernon Lion team. A very good season.

Celina is by far teh best team I have seen all year. Congrats on a good game and I think this team showed as much class as I have seen in years. Very respectful players. They deserve a championship.

You guys fought hard all year and took out some powerhouses along the way. Making it to the semi's is no easy task. Thats why there are so many teams who have never done it. Hats off to Celina and good luck next week.

Much respect for both programs. When an opposing team can brag about the class you show, it speaks highly of Texas High School Football. Can't wait for next year!!!

Thank you for the kind comments Z motion. Vernon was a VERY good team and they showed it last night. What a great day for a game! Both crowds were loud and proud of their teams...as they should be!


On a general note (not directed to anyone in particular):

While it's easy to get caught up in pre-game hype and the atmosphere at the game, we always need to remember 2 things:

1. It's just a game (a GREAT game...but, just a game)
2. The kids playing on the field work very hard, put in countless hours of preparation, and represent their community. They ALWAYS deserve respect from the fans (from both sides).

I think one of the major assets for Celina that most overlook it the depth of quality backups....poor ole 25 and 18 were suckin wind hard the 4th Qtr - they had given their all on both sides of the ball and were flat worn out....Celina is able to use a deep bench to get guys like Blatnik a good rest, even though he is such an integral cog to both the offense and defense....Vernon did not have that luxury for 25 or 18, so it was hard for them to be at their best late in the 4th Qtr....

The game was already decided when Aston got his long run for a td, so basically it got him some stats, but it was not going to matter to the outcome....it was a very good game and I am glad I was able to witness it, but I'm betting this last one is even better, which will mean a real treat is in store for the fans...

BTW, The game was NOT deceided at the time of Whiteside's long run. It was then 27-13 and Vernon just missed recovering the ensuing onside kick. The ball was on the ground. So please don't get on here and take a great run away from Whiteside because you claim the game was already put away.

I will second this post. The Bobcat players had more class and respect for the opposing team than they were being given credit for. My hats off to them for a good game. I could get on here and say that we should have done this or that but I am not. I am very proud of these LIONS. P.S. We are playing in 2006 not back in the early 90's. I can get on here and mention that I played in the late 80's. What good is that doing?

Bobcat- Get over yourself, by saying Celina was a full team of almost all B players please read between the lines that there must be an a player or two and a few C's as well. I consider B players GOOD players and when you have them at every position then you are going to be a very good team. Vernon has a drop off after a one A and a few B's. Vernon played hard but was out coached; you can tell that Celina has been here before just by looking at the plays they run. Although there were several run plays that were tan all day that were the same play there was also a lot of very nice pass plays Coach Hall would never have dreamed up. You saw our pass plays, wide receiver screens, HB screens? Now the slant is always open in high School football but Vernon has been scared of that play for about 15 years now. We don’t choose our QB's by their passing ability EVER so we are limited when we face a defense that is strong and as focused as Celina’s. If so we wouldn’t have had that QB in. Next year we should see a VERY good QB who was a junior this year’s #11 he should have been starting since he was a sophomore. Celina is a good team but I was not impressed at all. Can’t I have that opinion? Hey we were less impressive! And by the way, Vernon came VERY close to getting that onside kick, VERY VERY close and that would have made this a game BIG TIME, so for people to say the score could have been worse need to also admit it could have been much closer as well. Hey if Celina doesn’t have a PERFECT pass play at the end of the first half, this whole thing would have been different, it was the difference in the game in my opinion. Vernon Holds there and we are a lot more confident, but we didn’t and Celina did what they do and that is win and until someone knocks them off they can only listen to us loser’s and laugh. Hey 4A is around the corner and the laughing will be a lot less or at least on the other side of the stands. Celina has a lot to proud of and I don’t think one less than impressive semi final game will hurt their rep at all, the goods team still win them and Celina did. Props to the whole team. Hopefully Vernon can learn from the system you run like we DIDN’T last year with G’ville. G’ville ran the same QB up the middle stuff on us so I wasn’t surprised that wrinkle came out and was effective. Like I said VERY good coaching, good team. Hey Celina beat us and they were a better team. The defense was great. Even though we didn't win the game we are very proud of our team. We have a lot of guys back next year and they should get a little respect in the preseason polls after what they did this year. The outlook is good. You can knock the coaching if you like, I would have liked to have seen us spread them out more but how can I gig Coach Hall? 8-3 playoff record, the Lions have made the playoffs 3 out of 4 years he has been the head coach & they have won the region twice. Now I just hope that some other school doesn't try and lure him away.

I agree. We run the slot t and dont have a passing attack at all and it catches up to us when we play really balanced teams. You have to be able to have a passing game cause good, fast D's will eventually figure out and contain the slot t.
