Trudy's - North Burnet Rd just south of 183 OR 30th just east of Guadalupe (Mexican)

Brick Oven is good for pizza, Italian (have to get locations)

Pappadeaux (never been there but I understand it's good)

Baby A's (ditto)

La Margarita is very good in Round Rock

Suzy's - Anderson Lane just east of Mopac (Chinese)

Hut's Burgers on 6th street is great as is Frank & Angie's (pizza) just behind it on West

Hmmmmm.....let me think some more.

Chuy's on Barton Springs & Lamar, and the restaurant next to it. Both are great, and thats a real neat area around there.

Hula Hut, County Line, Carlos & Charlies...all good food...and the scenery is great (though it's a different type of scenery at County Line than the other two places! ;))...but not as great in the winter as it is towards April and May! :)

I like going to this German beer garden down by UT whenever I'm in the area. I believe the name of it is Schultzgarden...but I haven't been there in a few years. It's up and around the corner from Penick-Alison. I've never actually had a beer there so I can't speak to that aspect of it.

With all the great places to eat in the Austin area, its probably easier to ask where not to eat.:)

All good choices. Austin is a great city for good eating & entertainment.

Chuy's
Salt Lick BBQ (towards Dripping Springs)
Threadgill's
Trudy's
Scholtz's Beer Garten
El Patio (El Arroyo has gone way down in my opinion)
Kirby Lane (for breakfast)
Dan's Hamburgers
Hut's Hamburgers
...just so many

Try to do something authentic to Austin, not just some chain. Like they say, Keep Austin Weird!

Scholtz...that's the one I was thinking of!

If only Pat Green wouldn't have sang about El Arroyo...he killed it! ;)

Kirby Lane...very good and doesn't get the respect it deserves. An execellent late night choice as well. Are they a 24-hour establishment?

Yes, Kirby Lane is 24 hours & has multiple locations. Great late night or breakfast. Got "lost" once late night trying to find the one out on 183! Finally called for a ride.

PG did kill El Arroyo, it has gone way down. We ate there last month & not impressed. Very average now.

That's pretty good. I love to kid my Horn family members about that, & they will tell me it is all about keeping Austin places authentic & resisting chain restaurants, etc. I just like messing with them. Where did you get that shirt?

My fiancee got it. She interviewed the leader of the movement during one of her journalism classes at UT. I like the local establishments and all, but the actual "weird" element is what I don't like. After my fiancee got attacked by a transient, outside a library no less, I decided this whole "weird" schtick just wasn't worth it. I got "weird" looks when I would wear the shirt out in public in Austin, but usually only from people who look like "weirdos" themselves. Having the most psychotic drivers in the world also does not make "weird" any more positive in my book.

She's ok thanks to a good samaritan who heard her screams and pulled the scum off of her. Gave her another reason to hate Austin, though. No wonder it only took her three years to graduate.

Forgot one of my favorites - Shady Grove. Fun place & often live music too.

Places I frequent:

>Players (good burgers, survived the 'imminent domain' case from UT)
>Dirty Martin's ( on the drag, a classic hangout, plust a really cool atmosphere)
>El Arroyo (NOT the one downtown, off far west has better food and cool outside area, plus they usually do $5 pitchers of margaritas on saturday nights. Try the Federale)
>Bone Daddy's (like Hooters, kinda fun)
>Z Tejas (kinda expensive, I prefer the downtown location, but the Arboretum area is nice as well)
> Salt Grass Steakhouse (why I love this place, I have no idea)
>Shady Grove (a true Austin-style restaurant)
>Chuys (good mexican food; not great, but good)
>Cain & Abels (known more for its bar atmostphere and being a big college hangout, its got a great menu-- The famous fumbler (chicken fried steak sandwhich) and El Toro (roast beef & queso--AWESOME) are my favs.
>Trudy's (close with El Arroyo for favorite Mexican restaurant in town)
> Plucker's (Great wings, awesome atmosphere)

Hope those help!

It starts and ends with the following restaurant:

Hoover's (on Manor Road just east of The University.)

You'll love this place. UT coaches eat here all the time. In fact, I'm craving it right now.

Other places to go to--

- Player's (MLK and Guadalupe)
- Juan in a Million (east Cesar Chavez)
- Matt's El Rancho (South Lamar)
- The County Line (2222 & 360 or Bee Caves and 360)
- Salt Lick (the one in Driftwood...not the one on 360)
- EZ's (North Lamar and 38th)
- Kenichi's (4th and Colorado)
- Buca di Beppo (a chain but it's not that bad. 183 and Mopac)
- Shady Grove (Barton Springs and Lamar)
