Great great flick. Based on Huntsville, Texas is my understanding, at least according to the lawsuit.
My favorite line is "Randall Floyd! You're in need of a serious attitude adjustment young man. And watch out for that crowd you've been running with. Don't think I haven't noticed.

My wife boought me that movie 10 years ago and I bet I watch it at least twice a month. Once I counted how many times they say "man" in the movie. And all that crap that goes on the background is hilarious,

Oh and
"Look at the blood stains."

But I'll bet everyone remembers someone from their high school that fits the mode of those characters in the movies. I knew a Pink, a Slater, every town has a Wooderson, and a Jody. And we also had a Clint-type

He just has the face you want to punch. He never gets paddled, does all the proper annoying things a junior high kid will do. Plus his voice does a good cracking when he says "Mom" when O'Bannon tries to bust him.

pretty neat site - ( I am partial to Dazed and Confused since I was in the Class of 76) Did you read all the continuity stuff.... I liked this one..
"Miscellaneous: During the scene where Pickford, Slater, Don and another guy are riding around, they are seen putting the 8 track tape of Foghats "I Just Want To Make Love To You" in Pickfords car. Yet it is heard on every radio at the same time."

my thought is - the reason we heard it on every radio station IS BECAUSE EVERYONE LISTENED TO 24-7 while crusing....... that and Smoke on the Water and Ted Nugent's Stranglehold Jeez- the memories...........

The sound bites are pretty cool on that site.
I graduated in 1977. I agree, lot of Foghat, Deep Purple and a tasty side dish of Bad Company. I grew up in the Dallas area and we flew the KZEW progressive rock radio on a daily basis.

I think one of my favorite scenes in the movie is walking into the Emporium with Dylan's "Hurricane" playing. That always seems so realistic to me.

Wooderson: "Prickford...too bad about your party, man."

Pickford: "What can I say? The delivery guy bricked."

FYI...I just noticed watching yesterday (for maybe the 30th time) that in the Moon Tower party scene, when the 3 girls are standing by that old truck, the one sitting on the hood holding the beer funnel is Renee Zellweger. I knew she was in it but I never knew where.

Great movie.

I saw an interview with MM & he said that he ad-libbed most of his lines in the movie. Also said he only got a part b/c he met the casting director at an Austin hotel & had some drinks one night waiting for his girlfriend to get off work. He said for fun during filming he would take groups tubing down the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels where they smoked & drank way too much!

I thought it was based on Longview (TX), & some of it was filmed there, but mostly in & around Austin. MM grew up in Longview but was born in Uvalde.

Probably could be any small town America though.

Evidently, the main characters were all students in Huntsville, which prompted the lawsuit because Richard Linklater used some real names: Slater, Floyd and Wooderson. I found a website on that. I'll try to relocate. Linklater also went to school in Huntsville and played baseball for Sam Houston for a while

I read that interview....it was in Texas Monthly a few years back and it commemorated the 10th anniversary of the film's release. McConaughey said the only reason he even went out for drinks that night is because his girlfriend kept pestering him.:D

Talk about fate!
