OK I will likley be in San Antonio this Saturday for two games...

1st thing

I need somewhere to stay near the Alamodome...what are some hotels near the dome??

2nd Thing

I need some good places to eat near the dome and said hotels that are open late...looks like Cove vs. Alamo Heights is a 7pm start....

3rd Thing

I need directions coming from Fort Worth, I haven't been to San Antonio since 2002 when Everman played Burnet and I was on a charter bus so I wasn't paying attention..

Any help I can get is MUCH appreciated

Closest hotel to the Alamodome is the Best Western Sunset Suites (I think that is the name of the hotel-it's on Commerce Street) near Sunset Station. All Riverwalk hotels are within close proximity to the dome as well.

Places to eat - again, the Riverwalk and Sunset Station. Don't know how many places stay open very late though.

Directions: Take 35 to Interstate 37; go south. Exit Durango, turn left under underpass and you will be at the dome.

Are both of the games at the Alamodome or are you venturing out for a game "up north"?

Both games I am attending are at the dome....what time does LH-Hondo start and how far is it from the dome??

Are these hotels within walking distance of the Dome??

Eat at Mi Tierra. Great Mexican food. Can't remember exactly where it is, but it's walking distance from the Riverwalk. Anyone else know exact directions?

Mi Tierra is the greatest mexican food on earth. It's in the Market Square off of Commerce right across from a La Quinta on one side and a park on the other. Check ur pm matthew. Gave u info. Also, across the highway, Pico de Gallo is another great spot to eat.

Are these spots easy to get to from the dome or a hotel in the area?? I am not too fond of driving in downtown areas....LOL

Maybe I can stay at that LaQuinta Inn and park there and walk to this Mi Tierra spot?? LOL

Mi Tierra's not too far from the dome, but it'll be a little bit of a haul. I'd say maybe a half mile, but nothing too bad.

actually yes you can, that's what I did this past September cuz parking otherwise (especially when there are events goin on) is horrendous. They (the hotel) give you a parking permit and it is literally right across the street. Open ur hotel door, there it is.

I don't know SA too well, but to me, Chris Madrid's is worth the drive from wherever you're at. The burgers are just phenomenal.

you can't go to San Antonio to eat hamburgers! lol.....that's like going to Red Lobster for the chicken or a strip club for the buffet! ;)

Yeah, but the tostada burger (I think that's what its called) mixes the best of both worlds. I would take a day trip from Austin just to eat there.

...And strip club buffets are awesome.

Strip club buffets aren't bad at all!! LOL Gotta love the legs and eggs buffet

It looks like I am gonna shoot for staying at the Best Western and then eat at Mi Tierra after the game since its open 24 hrs....

If I can't get a room at Best Western I am going to try and stay at that LaQuinta since its in Market Square..

Game time is 4:00. I'm no San Antonio expert, but my husband said he thought it might be about 10-15 miles.

LHPM, if your game is at Farris that is approx. a 25 minute drive from the Dome

Unless of course you get the wrong directions given to your school by the stadium, in which case you should plan an extra 45 minutes to get lost in residential neighborhoods

Our "shot" for getting lost in the residential neighborhoods would be lhpd not listening to me....or asking me the question at the wrong time. ;)

How is the parking at the alamodome? I heard it's terrible.

and is it true they empty the stadium after every game? I don't see how they could or would do this, but then again, that is just what I heard.

The parking is AWFUL. If you can get there early enough park near the Sunset Station area!! That's a small area, but if you get there early enough it's perfect. Still cost $10 :twitch:

They don't empty the stadium. At least they haven't been the past couple of weekends, but they don't open up the doors until an hour before the first game. :twitch:

Farris to the AD is about 25 minutes. BUT. I would not plan to stay the entire LH-Hondo game unless you want to miss part of the AH-Cove game. As was mentioned, the parking itself is not bad, but it takes forever for the attendees to get you in and there is no good way that SAPD has come up with getting the crowds out while letting crowds in(if this is the case).:( p4s's idea is about the best I've ever heard for getting to the AH game on time.
Matt are you planning on both LH-Hondo and AH-Cove? That's gonna be tough but it is do-able. I'll see if I can get a friend of mine to get you a police escort to the second game(neighbor is a 20 year veteran).j/k:D
.
And I'll second everyone else about Mi Tierra, but the only time it isn't busy(45+ minute waits)when I've been there, is about 3 in the morning. lol
.
Travel safe on your way down here, hopefully we'll have a huge MnG for the 3A semi-final game.

No more than likley I'll be at both games in the Alamodome..

I just found out they have VIP parking so I shouldn't have to worry about parking...but thanks for the tips!

Did you all know that one time Billy the Kid stayed at a hotel in Laredo? I saw the old hotel many years ago but I think it has been torn down. It wasn't far from the plaza.

And that bit of useless information has to do with what?
