Can anybody tell me how to correctly pronounce Liberty-Eylau? I've seen it written hundreds of times, but never actually heard someone pronounce it.
Is it "I-Loo (like tooth)", "EE-Lou (as in ouch?") or something completely different?

I used to say "E lou" but from some relatives that grew up in Texarkana I've heard them pronounce it "I loo" so that's what I've been going with.

I was there too. :) If this year's team as is good as the team from '99, I think they'll be polishing another state title in a couple of weeks. Sad, because I really am pulling for Ingleside. :(

This one is correct I believe. Cajun influence on Eylau.

When we played them early this year (and beat them handlely, I might add) I asked some fans at the concession stand how to pronounce it properly. They said:
Eye-Low

Just to make sure I'm reading it correct,
it's Low as in downlow?

Thanks wimbo-pro !! This is the game we lost to a great Gainesville team last year - and I never imagined those big ole' boys could fall - but your kids tore them down. We would really like to get past this round - and we would really LOVE to bring home a state championship. But we're proud of our kids no matter what. They've stood tall and fought really hard to get here.
Good Luck to your Texans as well!! They have a GREAT team and a wonderful fan base to support them.

Ha! I never even thought about this being hard to say! It's Igh-Low (High-Low without the "h" pronounced)
EDIT: Should have scrolled down more, LOL...looks like people had already given the answer.
