Liberty Hill coach Jerry Vance understands Long plight. On Saturday, his Panthers meet Giddings in a Class 3A regional championship game at the RRISD Athletic Complex.

Vance has been looking at film of the most dynamic offensive player in Central Texas, Buffaloes quarterback Brock Fitzhenry. The area's leading rusher gained 313 yards and scored four touchdowns in last week's 35-28 win over Waco La Vega.

When asked if the Panthers will use a defensive "spy" — someone whose sole mission is to follow the quarterback — Vance had a quick reply.

"We're going to use 11 of them," he said.

The chief Panther on defense is sophomore linebacker Cody Lattimore, who has led the Panthers in tackles two straight years.

Ive seen him this year and he can be stopped but your linebackers better wrap up cuz that sucker can shake some tackles too. Bellville did not wrap him up and he killed them!

I was impressed with Brock Fitzhenry from the 1st time I saw him last year against Cameron Yoe. He is not just fast, he accelerates fast. He has great balance and always keeps his feet moving. That enables him to run right through tackles. You're not often going to bring him down just by popping him good. He will just bounce off and keep going. To tackle Brock, one must wrap him up and hang on until help comes along and he is down. He always plays hard and with a lot of heart.

According to the Chronicle, Giddings rushers had---
#5 Fitzhenry 23 for 109
#4 Bradley 3 for 79
#15 Jarmon 8 for 54
#3 Johnson 10 for 53

Fitzhenry is tough on everybody. But LH has some weapons too. I think it's a great game & the team that can hit a few passes will win it. LH hit 2 on Sweeny (out of 4 attempts) & both were huge.

Who was the kid that broke that long run against wos in the 4thqt.That kid was fast i think they caught him at the 2 yd line.I thought it was #2, but i don't think they have anybody that wears that number.Anyway i just thought the qb was the only one with speed till i saw that kid break that long run.

Bellville stopped him on probably 3 out of every 4 times he ran ball. It was that 1 out of 4 that killed them.
He had td runs of like 96 and 82 yds plus a few other long runs. The 82 yd run was on third and 12.
I don't know about LHs def backfield, but I'd seriously doubt if they have LBs as quick as Fitzhenry.

I think that was #4 Cassius Bradley, a junior like Fitzhenry. But they do have a #2. He is Bill Lawhorn , listed as a senior WR/CB.

What does Giddings have coming back off this team?

Catman, you are correct. #4 Bradley has some speed as well as #2 Lawhorn. Quite frankly, Giddings has speed all over the field including some of the O-line and D-line.

He had about 250 yds in the first half vs Bellville. In the 2nd half, he had only 25 yds. I don't know exactly what changes the Bellville defense made, but the FB was now getting big chunks of yards. Fitzhenry will read what the defense is giving and attack that area. Very hard to stop all their weapons, especially when Fitzhenry has the ability to break tackles and burn you for a long gain.

Yes Cody Lattimore #21. He is 6'0 around 200lbs. Great athlete, when he was in Pop Warner, they made him move up because he was hurting people.

Yep...Lattimore. Hits like a mack truck and runs about a 4.6/4.7 last I heard. He's in your head, then he's in your zone just as quick. AMAZING savvy and anticipation skills!

I don't think that is what he said rundoe, but if that is how you read it?

I don't expect that LH has the potential to be the best defense giddings has faced all year. WOS was hands down the fastest and hardest hitting defense we have seen, and LH doesn't show me this same speed on there defense. They will have to make every tackle to hold us to a low total like WOS, or we will break some big plays with our speed across the board. I will make a prediction that LH will not hold us that low, but I will add that LH has the match up to score more on us than we allowed WOS. It will be a great game. But don't expect LH to hold us down from what I have seen. I still look for our defense to come up big against a great LH offense (at least that is what has to happen for us to win, so of course I look for it). I think we have the speed and determination to do it though.

No i never said that.I saw Giddings play twice this year in the playoffs.I saw them beat wos,i never thought that they would be able to cause they don't pass the ball much.If you guys beat Sweeny then i know LH is good,i just think Giddings might be too much for you guys.Hey you never know once you get this far, luck sometimes becomes a factor too.

Hey, I can finally post!!

I have watched LH a half dozen times over the last 4 years now and I am always impressed with what their offense does with their personnel. Their defense was what won the game last week against Sweeny. Sweeny D did a good job against the running game except for the option and two pass plays. The outside running of Bode is what killed Sweeny.

That being said I have also seen Giddings several times this season, and even though they struggled against LaVega the other night, they bowed up and pulled it out. LaVega was HUGE on the line by the way, and they have some excellent skill athletes. Mistakes hurt both teams, but LaVega more so because of where they happened (and what a bonehead pass call on the interception play!).

I don't see LH being able to contain Fitzhenry and the big fullback (#15, although he didn't play much last week). After seeing my hometown Bulldogs twice this seadon, I think Giddings' defense is better than Sweeny's this year. I see them being the difference as I don't think anyone in 3A stops Fitzhenry.

Giddings 35, LH 21

Well, in general, yes if you forget about the 2004 and 2005 games, two embarrasing blowouts for the Leps. I'd like to forget about those two sad games. The Buffs will win Saturday, but it will be a close game.

We wait for the "official" first down sign from the refs... then we have a couple of guys that give a "1...2....3..." then everyone gives the first down signal and shouts "FIRST DOWN." It started about mid-season last year and has grown.

We also yell "Go Go Go Go ..." in unison when the center gets to the ball on offense. This one started at the Yoakum playoff game in 03.

Actually the "first down" yell started about several years ago (when Ty Winstead was still playing). It started because there was one particularly animated referee that made it such a huge display when he would call it...but it was a very small group of us doing it then (mostly mockingly)...you are correct it has definitely caught on in the past couple of seasons. We tried back then to get everyone to learn the words to the fight song as well, but I guess that is going to be a work in progress....
