Apparently no structural damage, but causeway is currently closed.

Five years ago, the causeway was hit by a barge and collapsed, killing 8 and shutting down the only link to South Padre Island for 3 months.

Thanks for the heads up. I called my daughter and let her know. They go out to the island to eat and party quite frequently.

Causeway will be closed for the next few hours. Structural engineers are being flown in.

I could just see the bridge being closed for months like it was before. Let's hope the engineers give it a thumbs up!
