Jet Diverted Due To Passenger Flatulence

POSTED: 8:41 am MST December 5, 2006

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- An American Airlines flight from Washington D.C. to Dallas made an an emergency landing in Nashville Monday after passengers reported smelling the odor of struck matches.

American Airlines Flight 1053 landed safely and 99 passengers on the plane were taken off the plane as an investigation was begun, according to The Tennessean.

Bomb-sniffing dogs found the burned matches in the cabin, the newspaper reported.

The FBI talked to a woman who admitted that she struck the matches in an effort to conceal flatulence.

The passengers and their luggage went through security again before the jet was allowed to continue the flight to Dallas. The woman was not allowed back on the plane.Link (http://www.thedenverchannel.com/nationalnews/10466830/detail.html?taf=den) hhmm

what doesnt make sense to me is you are not allowed to board a plane with some types of makeup, lip stick, etc...BUT....you are allowed eight (8) books of matches on a flight. EXPLAIN THAT!!!!!!!!!

Wisely she did not strike the match at the exact moment the flatulance occurred. Could have been a real disaster.

I believe the reasoning is that the airline industry is worried that a female pilot or "some" male pilots may attempt to apply eye shadow, lipstick and/or mascara while landing the plane.
