What are their screen names?

Just kidding. They should be the ones to identify themselves.

I guarantee though none of them is Phil C but hey, at least I got to be a bullfighter. :)

I only remember one from Ingleside, but I can't remember his name for the life of me. I know he graduated in 1954, the same year Emory Bellard left for Breckenridge.

Yeah, he was something else. In those days if you were 6'3" 260 lbs you were big for an OL in the NFL. Nowadays that is average for a good 4A team in hs. When I played at Chaffey in 1963 I was a 5'11" 195 OL! We could have used him then for sure. He was not only one of the first big OLs in his era but a true professional athlete with unrivaled discipline and an unparalleled work ethic.

Poth HS had one player....I won't mention his name because he didn't make it thru training camp. So I guess he really didn't play in the NFL but he came as close to anything we have ever had.

His brother was the AD at Pleasanton HS and recently retired. :D

Yes, Htown Transplant, Lamar Consolidated had those 3 you named. Hollas was a heck of an athlete (stud basketball player too), Faneca a beast, & Lewis did it all as well too. Good names & players.

Not the topic, sir. You are angry about threads closing I understand, but I do not know that answer or care to research it either. Nor is it relevant or anyone's business.

My old high school Freer had two of them. One was Bill Aker who played a few years for the St. Louis Cardinals. His younger brother Jim played pro baseball as a backup mostly for several teams for about ten years I think.
Also from Freer was Steve McMichael who played pro ball for Chicago for about 11 years and was on the defensive front four that won the Super Bowl game in the 80s. He finished his career by playing two years for Green Bay.

I remember all those guys Phil. Bill & Jim Acker were both solid players in their sports for sure. And Mongo McMichael was a beast & then a pro wrestler. I met him as a kid in the UT locker room with my dad. Good stuff.

Maybe some other snyderites can help me out with this but I know that Snyder has/had:

Tony Degrate - defensive tackle Consensus All-American, winner of the Lombardi Award. UT Hall of Honor inductee. Played for the Green Bay Packers.

Hayward Clay (who I saw recently when Snyder play Monahans) - Played for A&M, Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Rams - I think Miami too.

Dave McGinnis - former head coach of Arizona Cardinals and current linebacker coach at Tennesse Titans.

Seems like I may be leaving someone off.

I believe Larry is still coaching OL in the NFL. Mike was at Bay City & now at Lamar Consolidated like you said. I have gotten to know Lance thru the 610 outings here in Houston as well. Good guy, but mentions his dad way too much sometimes!

Let me just say this: Aaron & Matt both did well in the marriage department. I know Matt well from A&M days before he transferred to TCU & have met Aaron numerous times. I ran into both of them in the family restaurant about 3 years ago & met their wives too. Wow, good job guys! Never met Bo but so happy for all of them in the pros.

That was Darren who posted that, not me about Earl Campbell vs. Earl Cooper. No big deal.

I knew he was confused on Earl Campbell for sure. Former Sweeny coach & then later UT coach Ken Dabbs recruited Earl Campbell back in the early '70s from Tyler. Dabbs is still a good family friend. I have seen highlights of Earl playing both offense & defense in the State Finals for John Tyler & of course watched him at UT & in the pros. Awesome player for sure. Met him twice at UT & he spoke at our Sports Banquet once thanks to Randy Miksch getting him down to Sweeny (they were teammates at Texas).

Earl Cooper had a better pro career than college. He was kind of a hybrid TE/FB for the 49ers, maybe H-back would be the correct term nowadays. Good player & on some great teams. Good stuff.

Trooper Taylor played in the NFL I know from Cuero (DB Baylor, NFL).

I know Arthur Whittington's son (or is it nephew?) is there now, but wasn't Arthur (Raiders) from Brenham or somewhere nearby (he played at SMU)? Maybe I am wrong. Cody Wallace (All Big 12 OL) should get a shot after 1 more year at A&M too.

The most famous of all arguably, RB Robert Strait, washed out at Baylor due to a variety of reasons. But, he most definitely had NFL talent. I played against that monster, & Barry Switzer was there that day recruiting him.

Chime in Cuero fans - are there more?

I forgot Davis, had Johnson listed above. See if you can find out about Davis & team please. Good stuff buddy. If my dad was alive it would be simple & just ask him! That man knew everything from sports to history to current events to whatever. Wish I was that smart on multiple subjects.

I know one team he played with was Tampa Bay, but not sure of the other teams. Also, don't remember if you said this or not, but I know Charlie Johnson played for the Philadelphia Eagles also.

West Columbia, where are you?

I can think of 3 off the top of my head:

Charlie Johnson (Eagles)
Dennis Gaubatz (Colts)
Wayne Williams (LSU, Jets) = fastest guy I ever played against!

+ Charlie Davis (Tampa Bay) = 4 from WC

Yes, I included Johnson the 1st time. Now Davis is listed too. WC has had 4 play pro ball I believe unless we missed someone.

Don't know if my previous comment was very clear or not, but:

Charlie Davis played for Tampa Bay and Charlie Johnson played for The Philadephia Eagles.
