I'm keeping up with Diggs' blog of the game and it sounds like LaVega is playing it pretty basic. However that's when LaVega is at their best. They love nothing more than to line up and run 3 or 4 plays and beat you by smashing you up front. When they're good, and they are this year, you can guess exactly where the ball will be going and you still can't do a thing about it most of the time.

Fitzhenry scores all 4 offensive touchdowns? You have to wonder how much of a one trick pony this Giddings team really is. Jump on me all you want but if you isolate this kid (granted, difficult but possible) Giddings is in trouble.

Just came from the game. This game was ONE play from being a blowout!!! La Vega was up 21-7 with 2 minutes left till half. They were driving and fumbled the ball on the Giddings 11 yard line. Next play Fitzhenry runs around left end for 89 yards to make it 21-14. La Vega fumbled there and they even fumbled into the Buffs end zone killing ANOTHER potential TD drive. La Vega ran that old Wing-T to near perfection at times. But 3 fumbles and an interception killed them. Giddings lost their poise when they got behind. They committed ALOT of penalties. I've said it once and I'll say it again Fitzhenry is a BALL HOG!!!! He tries to do it all himself. La Vega really impressed me. They had a Freshman TB Chris Parr who was great and another TB Sykes who was fast. Congrats to the Buffs on the win!!!

every team has atleast one wake-up call game every year to let them know they are not unbeatable.... this was giddings wake-up call. thats tough to swallow for la vega, having many chances to win a game like that. especially against a team like giddings.

12-02-2006, 02:11 AM
Well with what Willie Williams has coming back next year they should be okay. The younger Parr brother that was just a freshman this year playing tailback is going to be a great one. (Waco paper did a good article earlier this year on him and some other freshman varsity players) I'd be looking for the Pirates to make a longer playoff run next time around.

Heck they've got a lot to be happy about from this season. They hadn't won a district game since the final regular season game in 2003. They hadn't won a playoff game since Mario Kinsey played QB for them in the late 90's and they still went out and made the 3rd round this season. LaVega really doesn't have much representing them on this site, but I hope they have another great season next year as well!

Yeah this has been a good year for waco area schools. with la vega and robinson having good years. and robinson just manhandled WC tonight.

Unbelievable! Fitzhenry is a Ball Hog? Let's see, Chis Parr carried the ball 27 times for LV. But, he had a great game!?! Brock carried the ball 28 times for the Buffaloes, and he is a ball hog!?! Chris had 170 yards rushing; Brock had 313 yards rushing.

You go with your strength to win games. You dance with who brung ya. If I were the coach, I'd keep giving him the ball until somebody is able to stop him. If/when they do, I'd give it to #3, #4, #11, #15, #29, or #30, any one of whom is able to put up 100 yards in a game.

But, last night, Brock was 28-313 with 4 TD's. The rest of the team was 20-76 rushing, with 1 TD.

My compliments to LV. Great team, great game. Their offense was able to dominate Giddings throughout the game. If not for the fumble right before the half, and the INT late in the game, the results would have been different. No way we could've come back from 28-7 at the half. Instead, it was 21-14 and the Buffs got the break, and the momentum, that helped win the game.

Actually, the fact is Giddings had their first wake up call in district when La Grange led 12-7 at the half and the Buffs squeeked by 20-12 on two long runs by Fitz and Jarmon late in the game. They came close to losing it when the head ref overulled the line judge on a Giddings fumble on their own 16 turning the ball over to La Grange with almost 4 minutes left up by only 8. Jarmon's knee was later ruled down after the refs conferred with the Giddings sideline. The Leps already had their offense on the field and the team and fans had already celebrated. It was a wierd call coming so late after the initial call of a turnover, but the Buffs managed to pull the win out. They are a determined team. Bellville played them even closer, so, no, I don't think this was their wake up call, the Buffs are and will remain awake.

Pud -- Can't agree with you more. Giddings bowled over its first five opponents by an average score of 41-10. Then, LG came to town and had us down 12-7 at half. Brought the Buffs down a notch. Coming back in the 2nd half of that game was the start of a new season. The kids are awake.

Sounds like the Giddings guys might have listened to the talk on the boards that playing next week was a given. But I think the schools remaining have enough of a name to keep Giddings focused on one week at a time (if that were the case anyhow).

There is a HUGE difference!!! Parr had his number called by the coaches. Fitzhenry calls his OWN number!!! There were numerous times he should of pitched but instead he kept it. He's lucky he has not been hurt this year. Not wishing anything bad on him,I'm just saying. But if he does ever get hurt than it's over for the Buffs. This is coming from an objective fan so I didn't really care if Giddings won or lost!!! This is the 3rd time I've seen Giddings play. Giddings D had a hard time stopping La Vega's Wing-T offense. Wait till they get a load of Liberty Hill's Slot-T offense with all the misdirection and counters. I think LH will bust a few long run TD's because Giddings D seems to overpursue. Plus, they have a solid defense as well. I think this is will be the end of the road for the Buffs!!!

So, it is not the number of carries that determines whether or not a person is a "ball hog," but who you believe makes the play call? Gimme a break. The kid ran for 300+ yards last night. We won. I believe that he would not carry the ball the rest of the year if we would be guaranteed three more victories. If you're the QB, don't you put the ball into the hands of your best player? What if you are the best player?

LH is tough. They have a great team and a great offense. They will put up some numbers and some points next week. I believe that Giddings will put up more. Put away your fork. We're not done yet.

MAN YOUR A GENIUS....PSYCH...geez i'm not sure how much more homerized and biased you can be...you must be from WOS or some other team....Waco LaVega's O LINE averaged 280...while Liberty Hill's OLINE is much smaller...so our defense won't be manhandled as they were last night....since you were at the game, i'm sure you noticed that our D played much better in the second half and made it tough on Waco LaVega...but who knows...you might not have had your bifocals on

I respect Brock. he is a great athelete. there is no doubt about that. But he would be a better football player in my mind if he would show more class. I have never played against him but I talked to the wimberley players after the game and they said he was the cheapest most trash talking player they had ever played against... even more then deon beasely from WOS last year and I witnessed that because I played in that game. and he was terrible. I dont think people hate on him because they are jealous or envy him. but because he shows no class. and same goes for most of that team. now on to LH.... I think LH will have some success on offense but I do not believe they will have enough on defense to stop giddings consistently. If giddings comes out slow and makes mistakes like against la vega then watch out, LH may get ahead and never look back. but I dont think that will happen. Honestly I would love nothing more then to have a rematch with giddings. but as far as our chances for getting to state, I would rather play LH next week. is this game Friday or Saturday?

I will tell you this, Giddings will NOT win State being a One-Man Show!!! You can that to the bank!!! I'm kinda hoping for a Giddings/Wimberley rematch. The difference between Wimberley in Week 0 and the Wimberley now is like night and day. They definitely have it rolling now!!! I would take the Texans by 2 TD's. But the Buffs have to get thru Liberty Hill first. Good luck you young whipper snappers. Don't forget to take your vitamins with your energy drink, energy bar or your Red Bull!!!
