View Full Version : Game Ends After the Third Quarter?

I have been thinking back to all the highschool games I have attended.

The oddest thing I have ever seen was a team quitting and leaving at the end of the third quarter.

This was regular season district play.

Has anything like this ever happened in the play-offs?

If I recall, it was something like 63-7. Other Celina fans would have to remember this game.

It was Prosper at Celina. Maybe 2000 or 2001, I am starting to get old man's syndrome.

It was 51-0 in 2000 and 56-7 in 2001...Celina over Prosper that is...

Hey Ad I think this happened once in Freer in 1960. We played Corpus Christi Academy (now called Incarnate Word) and we (Freer) had an easy time. It was a non district game. We were ahead about 28 to 0 at the end of the first quarter and playing our second string. At halftime it was 42 to 0 and they called in players from the B team out of the stands to play (this was the junior varsity today which included mostly freshmen and some sophomores). They still couldn't stop us and we were ahead 53 to 0. Their coaches said when it was 53 to 0 the game was supposed to be stopped so they forfeited the game to us and said they would never play us again and I don't think they did. They later dropped football.

Ironically I think in 1969 they won the state church championship. When they did I couldn't help but remember that game they forfeited. Plus that year Freer had a bad season and they probably could have beat us.

if I had a coach (any sport) that loaded 'em on the bus before the game ended, he'd be unemployed by Monday morning........now that assuming they quit because of the margin of defeat or because they didn't like how things were going......safety issues would be different

I just remember the Prosper coach walking to the middle of the field gathering his players and then I believe he motioned to the bus.

I can't remember what the refs did, I was so stunned.

It would be strange if he said didn't say anything to the refs.
