The following was published in the Contra Costa Times today regarding the oft discussed game between DLS and SLC.
TEXAS-SIZED: A crowd of 46,339 watched Southlake Carroll beat Euless Trinity 22-21 at Texas Stadium in a Class 5A playoff game Friday. It was the second-largest crowd to ever watch a high school game at Texas Stadium, behind a 1977 title game that drew 49,950.
There has been talk of a nationally televised game next season between De La Salle and Southlake Carroll in Texas. Dragons coach Todd Dodge told the Dallas Morning News in February and other publications this year that the game was a go.
But former Spartans athletic director Terry Eidson said then, and reiterated Monday that while he had looked into the possibility of a game, such talk was premature. So no California-Texas showdown, at least not next year.
"They jumped the gun," Eidson said Monday.
De La Salle's policy is to travel just once per regular season, and the Spartans already have a road game against Mission Viejo set for week 5 next year.
"We offered to have (Southlake Carroll) come here, but they didn't want to travel out of state," said Eidson, who remained at De La Salle as defensive coordinator. "We've done a lot of traveling over the years. It's OK for teams to come see us once in awhile."
De La Salle AD Leo Lopoz said the team has agreed to another home-and-home series against Serra-San Mateo, starting next season at De La Salle. The Spartans are scheduled to play Serra, Palma-Salinas, Mission Viejo, Heritage, Liberty, Pittsburg, Freedom and Ygnacio Valley, with open dates remaining in weeks 2 and 4.
Seems that DLS is a little scared to me.
