View Full Version : South Lake Carroll vs. Odessa Permian

Being from Midland and so close to Odessa I can't wait to go to Lubbock to watch this game. This is the first time I can remember that SLC and all they have to offer and bring to the table is almost matched by the mystique and tradition that MOJO brings to the table as well. What a game this is going to be.......

another 3A boy whoopin a$$..... not alot of TU fans on here saying much anymore.... it was a good game, they played alright and got the win, what makes me smile is that they are still young, this is the beginning of some good years to come, TU has to resolve some things......

well when you win the coin flip and get choice of where to play and then opposing coach didnt want to come to Ratliff I have to ask why?

That's no surprise at all. That's just how things work. I found it odd to think that you might wonder why a team wouldn't want to give its opponent a true home game.

Texas Stadium IS a home game for SLC. They are now 16-0 since moving to 5A in games played at Texas Stadium.

opposing coaches DO see it as a home game for SLC. As an opposing head coach there is no way I would want to play SLC at Texas Stadium

Well, of course they do! It's just down the street and the Dragons have a great record there! Nobody is arguing that!

You act like Texas is losing a ton of starters...Both teams have most of skill players coming back, Texas will need to reload the secondary, but to be honest the way they played this year, I dont know if that is as big of a negative as it looks.

BOTH teams will have the talent next year to compete

you have to make your decision on where to play BEFORE the coin flip. If Odessa said Ratliff then Southlake would have chosen Texas Stadium or even Dragon Stadium

Hek it is exciting to see if anyone in west texas could play SLC to within 20 points this itself is a good reason to go watch. Lufkin and Euless Trinity probably the only ones that had or have a real shot at an upset but who care its MOJO vs SLC.

11-27-2006, 12:29 PM
A couple of years ago...Abilene High almost upset SLC. Mojo will have to play 10 times better than they did against Central to even sniff a win against SLC. Permian has a few playmakers....but as a team they are going to have to play way over their heads.

I think SLC got their big wake up call last weekend. With Lufkin also out of the way they should roll to another title IMO. I hope someone knocks 'em off, but I don't think it will be Permian.

Then again, this could be Permian's "return to glory" moment. Doubtful...but that's why they play the game.

from what I was told, SLC flat refused to come to Ratliff or Grande before the coin toss ever took place. I think it is still funny how they wanted Permian to come to SLC or Texas Stadium if they won the toss but would not come any closer to Midland/Odessa than Lubbock.

I've gotten to see my fair share of teams and fans and outside of Highland Park fans there's no more annoying group of fans than those MOJO folks. I hope Southlake scores 70 this week just to remind Permian that MOJO doesn't really work so well anymore against really good teams. I had to do a game a few years ago in the Alamodome when they played in the kickoff classic. One of those whack jobs that they let come down on the sidelines spent the whole pre-game and game running his mouth about their tradition and that they couldn't believe they were having to play this school they'd never even heard of.

I was more than happy to see them lose to Copperas Cove that day 21-14 and then for good measure Cove beat them again the following season at Ratliff Stadium East (Known to people outside of Odessa as Texas Stadium) 49-21. :)

Back then the east texas coach T.J. Mills didn't know a thing about what to do in odessa. Hell, Permian was bad, real bad. And who said Permian was going to win anything? I simply said it was going to be fun to watch the game.

vet93
11-28-2006, 11:46 AM
While I think that Permian is likely not going to win...I will say that the current coaching staff appears to be doing a great job in restoring respectability to the program. They have some good kids coming up and could be in the playoffs for the next several years. They have not arrived yet...but are steadily making progress...They do have a few playmakers and could make a game of it if the things go their way...anything can happen on a given saturday in highschool football.
