I have always wondered why, instead of teams making kickers kick from tough angles, they don't just snap it to the center of the field.

I'm thinking the only reason this play wouldn't be legal is because the number of people on the left side of the ball. Which might not be a rule in HS like it is in college.

Good question, I'd like to know myself.

Where is the swammy when we need him?

it would be easier to block if you did it that way.

Texas High School football is played under NCAA football rules with a few exceptions. The numbers of players on each side of the center is not an exception.

No it wouldn't. If they lined up how I drew it then yes, but if they line up normally only to where the 2nd or 3rd guy snaps it, then it would be fine

You could do it with the guard tackleand end to left (or right) and everyone else to the other side but I suspect that the distance of the snap would be too great for the rush time and the potential kick blockers would get to the block point prior to the kick. If I remember correctly.

That is what I was thinking. That angle makes the snap longer and therefore the defense would have more time to get around to the ball and block the punt.

But it would be fun to see someone work on it in practice to see how it plays out. Specially someone with a good kick blocking team to try it against.

You got that right....I personally like my variation of the swinging gate.

That would also be a dangerous snap. Snapping for a field goal is hard enough, I wouldn't want to have to snap at a weird angle.

Snap doesn't have to be thru legs

You would just have to worry about the guy coming in from the right or left. The long snap would make the guys in the middle jump to early so they would factor out.

I think it all depends on how the defense lines up if its safe or not.

The swinging gate is the most pointless thing to run.

After having now just watched the hit...I have decided that BBDE is officially a moron with some of the comments that he offered up over the previous 2 days. Sad state of affairs indeed! :(
