How crazy is it that the only 2 teams to beat Canyon this year are Snyder and Sweetwater and the Eagles took it to the Bulldogs today.

its all about matchups, our guys matched up well today, and have improved drastically since those two games, especially defensively.

Who-dun-it!!?

Yes a great win for both teams and something to be proud of. But I remember Canyon mounting a comeback against Snyder that was stopped by an Int.

That QB from Canyon is freakin good!!
I remember thinking it would be a repeat of the Snyder/Hereford Game. Snyder kicked there butts all night but gave up a 12 point lead with 1:40 left to play.

Anyway, Congrats Canyon!
You deserve it!

I said before the game that if Ramos was on it would be an interesting game....well, he was on. Congrats to Canyon on the win and congrats to Wylie on a good season.

about 5 minutes before the game, I told my dad I just hope we can hold on during the first quarter. I knew Canyon was gonna come out playing like they wanted to win. Their first drive set the mood for the whole game, Wylie couldn't tackle, Wylie looked confused on defense, and Canyon came with a good game plan!

I think this quote sums it up good "To me, it seemed like we were a little overconfident after the big game we had last week (against Decatur)," Whisenhunt said.

From talking to some of the players this week and even on here, I think Wylie thought they would cruise through Canyon. I thought they would win too, if they came to play and didn't look past Canyon.

Dropped passes also killed Wylie ... 3 (if I remember right) passes that were like 40+ yards just dropped, couldn't have asked for a better pass, and the balls were just dropped.

We had first and goal twice, and got 3 points out of that. Couldn't capitilize on anything.

Had a touchdown called back for illegal shift.

Just overall not a good Wylie football day. But hey, basketball is looking good too!!! Be glad to get Gary and those guys back playing round ball.

Canyon grounds Wylie

LUBBOCK - This time, there was no escape.

Down 21-0 at halftime, Wylie couldn't summon enough late-game magic to make another legendary rally. Instead, the Bulldogs' season ended with a 21-10 loss to a motivated Canyon squad here Saturday in the regional round of the Class 3A Division I playoffs.

The Eagles (10-2) advance to the Region I final against Andrews (5-7), which defeated Fort Stockton, 53-28, on Friday.

This was the third consecutive year the Bulldogs and Eagles convened for a second-round postseason meeting at Lubbock's Lowrey Field. Wylie had taken the previous two, including a comeback from a 14-point second-half deficit last November to win on a last-second field goal. On Saturday, Canyon rewrote the ending.

"It's an overwhelming feeling," said Canyon quarterback Anthony Ramos, who threw for 187 yards and two scores to go with 129 yards rushing on 19 carries. "We had a much different attitude this year when we went in at halftime. Even though we were up by three touchdowns, the coaches coached us up, and we knew it wouldn't be over until the scoreboard clock had all zeroes. I think that helped us out."

Canyon 21, Wylie 10

Records: Canyon is 10-2; Wylie finishes 9-3.

Impact: Eagles advance to Class 3A Region I final.

Key Stat: Anthony Ramos passes for 187 yards.

The Bulldogs (9-3) struggled from the start. Wylie was out-gained 245 yards to 93 in the first half and had just five first downs before the break.

"We didn't even show up in the first half," Wylie senior lineman Treavor Whisenhunt said.

Meanwhile, Canyon's first half was virtually flawless. Ramos completed 10 of his first 14 passes for 130 yards as he guided the Eagles' five-receiver spread attack to 80-yard touchdown drives on each of their first two possessions.

Ramos then gashed the Bulldog defense with his feet. His 33-yard gain on a quarterback draw set up Jake Romero's 1-yard scoring run that put Canyon ahead 21-0 four minutes before halftime.

Wylie's scoreless first half can be summed up by a sequence early in the second quarter. After an 11-yard run by quarterback Gary Edwards gave the Bulldogs a first-and-goal at the Canyon 9, Wylie committed back-to-back penalties - the second one an illegal motion call that negated a touchdown pass to Bailey McGee.

Facing first-and-goal from the 24, Edwards found Justin Skinner open in the back of the end zone, but Skinner was out of bounds when he caught the ball. After a six-yard gain on second down, Edwards threw one just beyond the reach of Cameron Rogers in the end zone. On fourth-and-goal from the 18, Rogers went left after catching a short pass but was knocked out of bounds at the 2.

"We let them get out early, and we didn't do a lot to respond," said Wylie coach Hugh Sandifer, whose team tied a season-high with 10 penalties.

While the Wylie defense tossed a second-half shutout, the offense couldn't quite make it happen against a Canyon team determined to contain Edwards in the pocket. Edwards posted season-highs in pass attempts (41), completions (16) and passing yards (183), but each of the Bulldogs' final three possessions ended with interceptions.

Edwards finished with 107 yards rushing on 14 carries, but 30 of those yards came on the game's next-to-last play.

For seniors like Whisenhunt and offensive tackle Zach Overbey, the post-game finality was a tough weight to bear.

"To me, it seemed like we were a little overconfident after the big game we had last week (against Decatur)," Whisenhunt said. "But it wasn't one player's fault. It was the whole team."

those are the ReporterNews numbers ... I just copy and pasted the stats from the online article.

We all know the ARN isn't know for their quality in reporting anything ...

I do a lot of photography for people wanting to do ads in the ARN and billboards and stuff ... had a client about two weeks that spent a little over $7,000 on advertisements with ARN (full page, color kind of deals) and they completely butchered the photographs that I submitted to them on behalf of my client ... they literally cut off part of an arm and chopped off a good portion of hair. It was horrible. My client got 50% of their money back from the ARN.

late congratulations to the Eagles, especially after that tough loss to Wylie last year. Ya know, that game you would have won if you had kicked a field goal instead of going for it on 4th down... that game when F4L got jacked up hard ;)
Anyways, 3rd try was a charm... all the way, Eagles!
