Flag team wins youth Super Bowl

The Sweetwater red flag Mus-tangs made history as it defeated the Abilene Eagles gold in the flag football Super Bowl Sunday in Tuscola.
The Mustangs began the game on defense and held the Eagles from scoring on their opening drive. The Mustangs then brought out there offense and Clark found the end zone three plays later on a 20-yard reverse.
On the Mustangs next defensive series, the unit held Abilene once again to a four and out.
At the beginning of the second quarter, McGee scored on a quarterback keeper from 15 yards out to give Sweetwater a 14-0 lead.
Late in the second quarter, the Eagles made their way to the end zone, capping an 11-play series to cut the lead to 14-7. Right before halftime, Alvarez had a 65-yard run before getting his flagged pulled at the 10-yard line which set up McGee’s second touchdown of the game from 10 yards out. That score gave Sweetwater a 21-7 lead at halftime.
At the beginning of the third quarter, the Mustangs came out moving the ball but where stopped by an interception. The Eagles were then able to drive down and score off the turnover cutting the score to 21-14.
On first and 20 from their own 30, the Mustangs began the drive with a 75-yard run from Clark. After a run from Alvarez, McGee scored this third touchdown of the day to give the Mustangs a 28-14 lead.
The defense then held the Eagles on their offensive drive as it stalled at the 35-yard line. With four minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs brought out their offense and McGee found the end zone for the fourth time. Sweetwater held a 35-14 lead when the Eagles got the ball back with about 3:30 left in regulation and kept their drive alive but didn’t find the end zone.
Offensive statistics for the Mustangs were — Martinez one rush for five yards; Alvarez three carries for 120 yards; McCoy three carries for 65 yards; Clark three carries for 105 yards; and McCoy four carries for 50.
Martinez, Atkins, Figueroa, Hernan-dez, Fonseca and Andrus did an outstanding job blocking and providing running room for the backs.
The Mustang’s defense had a great game. Defensive standouts were Longoria, Hill, McGee, Alvarez, Clark, Gomez, McCoy, Figueroa, Mar-tinez, Hernandez, Sutton and Justen Gomez.
The Red Flag Mustangs are coached by D. Rotan, S. Alvarez and J. Hall.
Game honors went to the entire defense.
The Mustangs finished the season with a perfect 11-0 record.
