Voting ends Wed morning. WE did things a little different this week. I have enlisted the help of 5 very noble souls to help me pick 3 nominees from each classification. After everyone turned in their picks I put them into the poll. I will leave it up to those that are part of the new process if they wish to be identified.
Jared Flannel, RB, Columbia
40 carries 268 yrds 2 TDs
in a 26-12 win over Bellville
Brock Fitzhenry, QB Giddings vs. Wharton
378 yds. 6TD's on probably 20 carries or less.
Heck of a player and only a junior,
Brent Bode, Sr, Liberty Hill vs China Spring, RB
Rushing: 11 carries, 186 yds, 3 TD's (16.91 avg)
Receiving: 2 receptions, 19 yds, 1 TD
Passing: 1 pass, 24 yds for TD

tough one here...I nominated the two Scott twins from West Columbia for having a combined 4INT's and 1 FF. Of the finalists I have to vote for LH since they actually threw, completed, AND scored on a pass play!

Jared Flannel & Tank Carder share the award for me! Carder deserves mention here at least. And both had D1 recruiters at games watching them too.
Sweeny's Tank Carder in 31-7 win over La Grange:
- scored 25 of Sweeny's 31 points
- 3 TDs, 4 PATs, 1 FG
- 18 carries for 161 yds. / 1 reception for 7 yds.
- many tough inside runs when everybody knew he was getting the ball, continually moved the chains against stacked fronts
- punted & kicked off well all night too (1 kick-off did not reach end zone & it landed at 1 yd. line)
- solid LB play all night, lots of big stops sideline to sideline
- team leader & leaves it all on the field every week.

#5 had 382 yards rushing on 15 carries (only two in the 2nd half). He scored 6 TD's and had another one called back because of a penalty in the 1st quarter. Gotta be POTW.

the kid from sweeny Carder is phenomonal (sp?)
He scored all 17 against West Columbia in a 17-14 win over us.
The Flannel kid isn't too shabby either! Amazing what he has done at Columbia, esp. considering his foot/stress fracture situation the past year. I hear he may get a pin put in that foot again after the season. Can you imagine he & Tank on the same team? WOW.
What a lot of people don't realize about Jared Flannel is how good he is at other sports too (much like Tank). Both those kids excel at basketball & baseball too. Flannel has had some track moments too. Both of those kids have bright futures & I certainly hope Flannel can get healthy for the next level.
For Tank:
vs. WC = all 17 points in win
vs. Wharton = 21 of 33 points in win (including final 10)
vs. La Grange = 25 of 31 points in win
...simply put we would not still be playing without that kid, period. And his future is at LB too! Team game but he is a difference-maker for sure.
