He's had some problems after football but for those 5 or 6 years he was in his prime there was never a better QB. The best pure passer ever. Got a chance to see him play against the Oilers in the Dome the year after the Jets won the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl III on January 12, 1969, was when Joe and the Jets "made a statement" about the upstart American Football League. They upset the NFL Baltimore Colts, 16-7.

What made it even sweeter was that during the week leading up to the game, Broadway Joe "guaranteed" New York would win and declared that not only he, but four or five other QBs in the AFL were better than the Colts' QB, Earl Morrall.
