The Lady Texans defeated Canyon in 5 games to capture the 06 volleyball state championship. Congrats and good job on bringing the ship back to Wimberley.

I figured it would come down to Wimberley and someone. Personally I thought it was going to be Monahans, though, but you never know what's going to happen in Volleyball.

What an incredible match!

25-23, 19-15, 25-22, 11-25, 15-10

Wimberley's tallest player is 5'9". Canyon had five girls 5'10" or taller, including one who's 6'3".

This was Canyon's first state tournament appearance. I know they dominate in basketball, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them back in San Marcos regularly.

Interesting score there? Is that supposed to be 19-25?

Nonetheless, sounds like a good match. I almost went to the State Tournament, but couldn't go. Any more updates from other classes would be appreciated.

Whoops, yes.

One more thing -- That's the fifth state title for Wimberley's Lee Grisham in the last eight years.

His teams absolutely play their butts off, never give up (behind 22-19 in game 1 and 17-10 in game 3 today), and rarely make mistakes.

This guy could coach any sport and be a great coach.

YEAHHHH!!! This was 3 years in coming for the Lady Texans...and both of my nieces who are a senior and a sophmore. They last won the state title in 2003, 2002, 2001 and 1999. This was "One for the Thumb", as the saying goes!!!!

I am so proud of you Megan and Ally...you have given your family such a thrill and have made us so proud!! We love you two VERY much!!!

Football4life...your girls should hold their heads high. They fought hard and gave us our only 2 game losses the entire play offs. Not to mention you had more juniors than seniors, I suspect their time is coming!!

What he said.

Canyon has been traditionally dominant in girls' b-ball, but this is their first V-ball trip to state... In the past, have the best female athletes played only basketball? Are they now playing both sports? Because if that's the case, y'all will be travelling to central Texas twice a year regularly...

no, actually the problem had been brittany hughes from monahans, or else we would have been there before instead of them. there are a few girls that do both, but not too many.

OK, yeah, I remember her!

I've just seen your b-ball team play enough times in Austin (including one very painful rout) that I figured y'all would have had enough talent to win the region in v-ball sometime.

That said, I'd bet good money that Canyon will be back in San Marvelous next year.

BTW, great turnout from the folks that drove from Canyon this weekend. That's a loooooong ways...

Yeah I havent figured out why everyone thinks reg IV is so weak. Oh well, reg IV now is the defending football champs and 06 VB champs and even better they're both from Wimberley.
