Chandler Dane threw 5 touchdown passes and ran for two more leading the Eagles to an easy win against the Venus Bulldogs 48-12 last night at Southlake's Dragon stadium. Dane was 23 of 32 for 350 yds. His targets were Jake logue 11 catches, 169 yds,2 TD's, and Brian Christian 9 catches,151 yds, and 3 TD's. The offensive line protected Dane flawlessly all night long giving up no sacks and no hurries. Andrew McKinney nursing a deep thigh bruise had 4 carries for 32 yds before retiring into his street clothes at halftime with the Eagles leading 34-0. The defense held Venus scoreless until 2 cheap TD's in the 4th quarter against the second unit. That is 10 straight quarters without giving up a touchdown. The Eagles will play either Vernon or Brady next week.

First let me say....Congrats to Venus on a great season. You did much better than most thought you would, and did very well this year considering that it is the Head coach's first year there. You have some very good athletes and never gave up. Your fans were great, supporting your team regardless of the score. Having now played Everman, Kennedale and Decatur...from your viewpoint what did the Decaur team look like to you?

As far as the game...the late TD's by Venus was against a combo of 2nd/3rd string O line, and they were all JV and freshman skill position players on the field. But they did earn the scores through hard work and not giving up. The punt return for a TD was awesome. That kid had some moves and crossed the field twice on cutbacks. I think the speed and contact at the varsity level surpised our skill players who were on the field in the 4th qtr since this season they were playing on the freshman and JV squads. It was nice to see the starters resting after 2 series in the 3rd qtr. Dane's backup was playing freshman ball just last week, and now that he has seen things "full speed" he will do just fine. Espically if he comes in with the 1st string O line and the 1st string recievers in the game to support him. Mckinney only played in the first quarter. In fact, I think he was only in for the first 2 series...oops 3 series as the 2nd series consisted of only 1 play. It does look like the Eagles are taking the playoffs 1 game at a time.
