SO does LE move into the favorites role? No one else has even stayed on the field with Gilmer.

I had a Hutto Gilmer final predicted... who else have I jinxed?

I would think this would make Abilene Wylie the odds on favorite to win Div I now...

Congrats to the Leopards. They should go all the way, but then we said the same thing about Gilmer up until now.

People need to remember LE started the year top 5 and injuries hurt them. They are healthy now.

haha i would not have picked hutto in that final, not this year. I think hutto is realizing how much that offensive line helped us last year. Plus giving up 40+ points to ROBINSON?!?!?!?!?! cant beleive it

I could not have said it any better.

I listened to the second half of the game, and this was definitely a game where turnovers made the difference.

Gilmer's defense allowed way too much to L-E in the third and early fourth quarters. L-E started with the ball in the third quarter, and Gilmer turned the ball over to the Leopards on two consecutive drives thereafter (even though once was a kickoff return), so the offense wasn't able to help until too late.

L-E used this to dominate TOP, keep the ball out of Gilmer's hands, and most importantly capitalized on the Buckeye mistakes.

From the sounds of the Buckeye broadcast team, L-E used the same (or nearly same) play over and over, and it worked.

Credit will be given where it's due; to the Leopards. They game-planned, AND EXECUTED the Buckeyes out of the playoffs. They did their part, plus they got the bounces, and used them to their advantage.

It's a horribly tough loss for a Gilmer fan, but it's easier since I'm on the other side of the country.

LOSING SUCKS. (Good job L-E)

BIG BLUE DEFENSIVE END

You got that right. Last year's Hutto team had the best offensive line I have ever played against.

Dang that ole 3aDownlow curse strikes again. Playoff football just never stops surprising folks. Take me for example, I'm stunned over the Leps. This is even worse for Gilmer fans. They had such a tremendous season and one bad game and its over. Soldier on is all I can say. And congrats to LE for making us all believers.

when you read all the posts about who Gilmer will play in the finals and about how Gilmer has cakewalk out of region2, then you better start looking for the upset because it is coming
and it came tonight
feel bad for the Buckeyes, but also feel like justice is served
who does Canton play next week?

my thoughts exactly. i guess the qb will move back. sit out 2 weeks and apply to the uil to play for canton. the uil will make an exception because the kid has been through alot. will be quoted as saying since gilmer is out and they can't win a state championship i explored my options and decided canton did have a shot since they are still in

In Gilmer's defense. Most of their posters did not make them out to be an unbeatable juggernaut. They were very respectful...

Exactly. Don't compare the two losses it's pointless. LE is a much better team than Crandall.

It sucks to lose. :( It sucks even more having to eat crow. :hairpunk: The way I see it the true Gilmer fans have been back on to congratulate the Leopards and everyone else, well they may still be passed out! :o :D

Congratulations to LE, this is amazing. I also think that Gilmer could probably put pretty high up there on the list of the best teams to never win a state championship. They were very good, but any given night, anything can happen.

Everyone knew this COULD happen, but no one in Gilmer ever believed it WOULD happen.

As for G.J. Kinne, no one is going to blame him for this loss. I think he might have fumbled once, but the real killer fumble was the one on the kickoff.

Would I rather have had Jamell Kennedy at QB this season? Yes, simply because he had been in the system since 7th grade and had earned the job and had chemistry with the players with whom he had played since elementary school. Would it have made any difference in this ultimate outcome? Probably not. Jamell doesn't play defense.

Gilmer's defense was always somewhat suspect this season. L-E had the perfect game plan. They successfully played "keep away."

For anyone who knows the history of the series, Gilmer has very rarely ever beaten L-E. We were in the same district all through the '70s (in the equivalent of today's 4A) and they almost always beat us like a drum.

Here is the history between the schools:
"Liberty-Eylau owns a 10-2 all-time record against Gilmer. The two teams met for 12 consecutive years, starting in 1968 with the Leopards’ 21-14 victory. The Buckeyes’ two wins came in 1970 and 1973, while Liberty-Eylau won the last meeting in 1979."

So now it's 11-2 in favor of L-E. Congrats to the Leopards and I hope you bring another state title back to East Texas. However, if it turns out to be Palestine versus L-E in the final, that will already have been assured.

Gilmer is out of the playoffs. That point has been driven home pretty effectively now. Would anyone else like to bring up that the Buckeyes are starting basketball season now? Here's your chance! Pile on!
