My wife called today, frantic...turns out my soon to be 3 year old asked her pre-school teacher "don't tell mom, I'll get a spanking." The other children chimed in...yeah, don't tell, she'll get a spanking...so, the lady calls my wife concerned about us spanking our daughter...At first I laughed it off, but after some thought I'm going to meet with them Monday morning...funny that you posted this today...

I was right there. Graduated in '74.
I remember a friend of mine getting new deer rifle and several of us looking at it on the school parking lot. Don't see many gun racks in pickups anymore.
Also I had to go to principal's office and get paddled on two different occasions. Can I still sue him and the school, or is there some kind of statue of limitations?

Some of these may be a little far fetched, handndirt, but not by much.

I remember my junior year, I had an English class with only one other girl. She got a a sunflower seed stuck in her appendix and missed the last 2 months of school...but I digress.

I was the ONLY girl in that class at that point. My teacher was also a coach. I got caught chewing gum in class one day and had to get my mandatory "3 licks" (as they were called back then).

Instead of having a female teacher do it...he made me stand in front of the class and let the GUYS count the swats! Well he had got to about 6 or 7 swats by the time they said "ONE".

So...I ended up with about 17 swats before it was all said and done.

Can I sue for something????

I wonder if that experience has scarred me into the person I am today!!!!

:crazy1: :crazy1:

I share your pain, hand... I hate the direction...

I've been thinking about going out to Wyoming or Oregon or something and working on a ranch as a hand, like one of those big 20,000 acre ones... was never raised on a farm, but would just like to be out in the wilderness on a freakin' horse far far away from all of the bullchit described in your post...

I think it needs to be stickied up top to remind people how crappy it is becoming...

If your cheeks have a scar, or if you can prove you didn't have a crack before the licks, I think you'll own the school.

Hmm...the thought of "owning" Coahoma High School just doesn't seem to do anything for me!!

My point is...if something like that were to go on today....there would be sexual harrassment accusations being thrown around.

All my parents said was, "well, you shouldn't have been chewing gum in class"!!:D

This is so true it hurts. I remember bringing my .22 to speech class as part of a presentation on hunting and shooting! I can't imagine that in this day and age.

We can't turn back the clock. Things are truly different now. Maybe that's why I'm a conservative. I value how things were in the past and am suspicious of change for its own sake. It isn't always progress, doncha' know? You betcha.

Agreed. I just hate that extremists from both sides use the labels to villify the very people they should be working alongside in an effort to better this nation.

So true and you didn't have near the extreme violence in schools that we have today. Just try to put into perspective how bad it will be in 10 or 12 years if you go back and look at the difference in the past decade.

Not true. It was the Tories who were the liberals in those days. Freedom from taxation and all, remember the Boston Tea Party? Concription into the Kings Army was another issue. The American Revolution was about individual freedom, and economic freedom and was a rebellion against the Monarchy. The Monarchy would be like Big Government and the Socialist Nanny State liberals love so much today. You have it backwards.:(

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Don't you remember
The fizz in a pepper
Peanuts in a bottle
At ten, two and four
A fried bologna sandwich
With mayo and tomato
Sittin' round the table
Don't happen much anymore

We got too complicated
It's all way over-rated
I like the old and out-dated
Way of life

Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when

I love my records
Black, shiny vinyl
Clicks and pops
And white noise
Man they sounded fine
I had my favorite stations
The ones that played them all
Country, soul and rock-and-roll
What happened to those times?

I'm readin' Street Slang For Dummies
Cause they put pop in my country
I want more for my money
The way it was back then

Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when

Give me a flat top for strumming
I want the whole world to be humming
Just keep it coming
The way it was back then

Back when a hoe was a hoe
Coke was a coke
And crack's what you were doing
When you were cracking jokes
Back when a screw was a screw
The wind was all that blew
And when you said I'm down with that
Well it meant you had the flu
I miss back when
I miss back when
I miss back when

I remember well that a couple of buddies always had their rifles and shotguns on their guns racks. You don't see much in the way of gun racks in pickups anymore as they are quickly stolen.
lol
I also remember when someone got a new Buck knife it was showed off to everyone in school. We always wore those knifes in class. When we got into fights it WAS with fist, not weapons.
.
What's happening now is something that is called "incrementalism" and it has been happening for years(I have posted about this quite a bit). It takes time to see the change but change happens nonetheless. And yes, the ACLU is responsible for much of this(and those who back them).
