Gobbler head coach Mark Reeve has coached in Cuero four years. This is the second time his teams have faced Sinton twice in one season.

The Gobblers and Pirates will meet in a bi-district play-off Friday at Victoria's Memorial Stadium starting at 7:30 p.m.

Cuero goes into the game with a 10-0 record and the knowledge they have defeated the Pirates the last four times they have met. The Gobblers defeated Sinton 29-0 to start this season.

But as Coach Reeve notes, the Pirates had beaten Cuero the five previous times they played each other before he took over the Gobbler program. “This is a chance to even it up,” he stated.

The Gobblers lead the series against Sinton 7-6.

In spite of the dominate win earlier this season, Coach Reeve said this play-off will see a much improved Pirate squad.

“They are a well coached team,” he said. “Their offense has definitely improved since we first played them 10 games ago.”

He said injuries were a factor for the Pirates early in the season, as they were for the Gobblers. “The difference was we were fortunate to have the depth in those positions and they weren't. It will be a more true match-up this time. We will see a more real Sinton team and they will see a more Cuero team this time.”

The Pirates suffered a tough blow Friday at the hands of district rival Ingleside losing 31-6. The loss gave them the runner-up title in District 30-3A.

Cuero goes into the game with most of its injured players returning to action. Linebacker Dason Jackson saw limited action against Goliad and defensive back David Williams should be ready for the play-off contest. Both have been out with injuries.

The winner of Friday's game will likely face the winner of the Rio Hondo and Raymondville game. That regional contest would be played in either Corpus Christi or San Antonio area.

That's a very good little article. There hasn't been anything printed out about the game here yet, but I don't think this game will attract as much attention as it has in the past. Regardless, it's always a good match up and nice little rivalry that's built up the past couple of years.
