so....any thoughts? La Vega is typically a bottom dwelling team but seem to have come around this year. Notably beating Marlin early in the season. They don't seem to be an offensive powerhouse but appear to have a pretty good defense. Should be a good, solid first round matchup and more than likely the only game that would stand between a 18 3A sweep. Here's the tape:

Cameron Yoe:
Sep. 1, 2006 AUSTIN LBJ W 44-14
Sep. 8, 2006 AT GATESVILLE L 19-29
Sep. 16, 2006 AT ARLINGTON GRACE PREP W 34-7
Sep. 22, 2006 AT LEXINGTON W 20-13
Sep. 29, 2006 LORENA W 34-0
Oct. 6, 2006 FREDERICKSBURG L 28-33
Oct. 13, 2006 HUTTO L 14-33
Oct. 20, 2006 AT TAYLOR W 43-23
Nov. 3, 2006 ROCKDALE W 50-12
Nov. 10, 2006 AT LIBERTY HILL L 20-28

SCHOOL OVERALL PF PA LEAGUE PF PA

CAMERON YOE 6-4 306 192 2-2 127 96
Games to note. Beat state ranked Lexington, played a tight game w/ 4A playoff team Fredericksburg & blew out 4A playoff squad Austin LBJ. Played state ranked Liberty Hill down to the wire

Sep. 1, 2006 MARLIN W 13-6
Sep. 8, 2006 AT GROESBECK L 27-29
Sep. 15, 2006 FAIRFIELD W 28-14
Sep. 22, 2006 WACO UNIVERSITY W 27-26
Sep. 29, 2006 MEXIA W 35-14
Oct. 13, 2006 AT CHINA SPRING L 40-41
Oct. 20, 2006 AT ROBINSON W 29-22
Oct. 27, 2006 GATESVILLE W 22-7
Nov. 3, 2006 AT LORENA W 35-7
Nov. 10, 2006 WACO CONNALLY W 28-7

2006 District 17-3A Standings
SCHOOL OVERALL PF PA LEAGUE PF PA

WACO LA VEGA 8-2 284 173 4-1 154 84
Games to note: Edged out traditional power Marlin in week 1. Beat 4A University. Beat Gatesville (who beat Yoe) by a very safe margin.

Both squads have put up pretty even numbers as far as points fielded/allowed and the only common teams between the two are Gatesville & Lorena. Should be a good one....but could get ugly given the past history between these two.....

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that the Yoe will win at least 2 playoff games this year. That's before they will have to play the eventual winner of WOS/Giddings game!!!

Cameron Yoe 36

Waco La Vega 12

After seeing Gatesville play both teams, I will have to go with
La Vega. And, not because I am partial to a 17AAA team, but there seems to be more overall team speed and size with the Pirates. I plan to see their game in Killeen Saturday night, so it is up to Cameron to prove me wrong. Does anyone know who will be the home team?

I don't think you know what your talking about concerning la vega i wouldn't call la vega a bottom dwelling team they have been down the past few years but all in all there usually pretty good

funny I don't recall la vega making regular playoff appearances. I do know what I'm talking about as they have been the whipping boys of whatever district they are in but this year they seem legit. read the whole statement.

well after some research let me further my ignorance. not counting this year, since 2000 la vega went 24 & 36. that equates to ONE playoff appearance which by the way, was a first round elimination. they were 3 and 6 in 2005. thanx jack

La Vega 87(lost in state quarter finals),88(lost to fairfield 1st rnd fairfield lost in state quarters),89(lost in state quarter finals),91(lost to fairfield who lost in state quarters),94(lost in regionals who lost in the quarter finals),95(lost in first rnd to mexia who lost in the 2nd round,96(lost in first rnd to elgin who lost in 2nd rnd),98(lost in 2nd round to Iowa park who lost in regionals,99(lost in 1st rnd to Breckenridge who lost in regionals)( (data stops in 02) and most of those years only 2 teams went to the playoffs once again i don think they were whipping boys

Marlin played LaVega first game of the year and I've seen Cameron play Lexington. Looks like a pretty evenly matched contest. Doesn't seem like a clear favorite to me.
