Robert "Bob" Gates said a while back:
"Were we to become a top ten university and lose that spirit, those traditions, our culture, we would be nothing more than another giant education factory. A big brain with no heart. Hell, we might as well be in Austin ."
I know there has been discussion back & forth concerning his tenure at Texas A&M, & I am no longer on campus, but I always liked the way this resonated! I personally thought he did some good things at A&M & will do so now as Secretary of Defense.
