Good question. I'd definitely put Jim Tressel, Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, Tommy Tuberville, Kirk Ferentz, Bobby Petrino and Pete Carroll at the top of the list of head coaches. Don't know who I'd take, though.

You can go ahead and throw him in with that group, too. Another coach that may not be on that level but isn't too far behind and gets overlooked pretty often is June Jones at Hawaii. He's built a perennial conference contender out of a program with almost zero recruiting base. Others I'd throw in with Jones are Chris Ault at Nevada, Mike Price at UTEP, Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia, and Gary Patterson at TCU. Others in the same group with these guys would be the usual suspects... Bobby Bowden, Mack Brown, etc.

I also think Dick Tomey (SJSU... former Stoops disciple) and Stoops' brother, Mike, along with Washington State head man Bill Doba, will be in this tier soon enough.

Mack Brown is nothing more than a salesman who has surrounded himself with a good coaching staff, and the best players in the land....which he sold on coming to God's Country to ball here in the 512...thug or not.

Carrol is not that good of a coach, he has a great talent pool like mack brown, except i think brown can coach better. you saw what happened to carrol when he was a pro coach, oh wait maybe you didnt, because nothing happened, he was mediocre at best.
