Despite today's loss, if you look at the standings in the NFC arranged by conference, Dallas is the number six team in the NFC right now. I'm not sure how all the tie-breakers work, but according to the official standings, if the playoffs started this week, Dallas would be IN! The first round byes would go to Chicago and New Orleans. Dallas would play in New York as the number six seed and Seattle would play Atlanta in the four versus five matchup.

7. Rams 4-4 3-2
8. Eagles 4-4 3-3

This is the standings if season ended today. Cowboys have some teams to jump to be at the number 6 spot

 where did you get that? I was looking at ESPN.com's standings, but I got to realizing afterward that Philly HAS to be above Dallas due to head to head.

cowboys loss to eagles put eagles ahead and also a better conference record
cowboys win over panthers put them ahead and both have a 2-3 conference record.

The rest of the teams havent played each other from the teams that are 4-4

We let this one today slip away. Should have won this game.

if they miss the playoffs by one game, it could be because they let this one get away from them.

Cowboys are ahead on falcons by power points. since no head to head and same conference record. Cowboys have scored 250 points second most in the NFL
